I have read a few comments that a 2 player starter set is due to be released soon. Is there any more info on this?

Yep, coming in the next few months. Neverborn vs Guild, includes all the relevant cards and rules:

About 40 quid.

I can only compare to Australian prices, but the biggest online retailer is selling for $75au. That's a cracking good deal.

The Fate Decks are about $15au each. The tape measures about $5au each. The digital rulebook I'd put at $10au. That leaves you paying $25au for 8 models and their cards and the quick reference cards.

Yep, it's a very good deal unless you're not interested in the decks or tapes considering you can get regular/non-branded ones for super-cheap, in which case it's only reasonably good.

The measure tapes I devalued a lot. $5au is about the cheapest you'll find an okayish tape measure here. I really do recommend using a fate deck to new people over a poker deck, simply due to not having to muddle around with figuring out suit conversions.

Great, thanks all. I am just getting into malifaux and have the rulebook, and lynch and perdita crew boxes to get built and painted before my first game, don't have fate decks etc.

They are the right factions but do you think the new box would be a sensible addition or am I better buying fate decks and different minis separately to add to the crews that I have?

Depends if you want the models.

They will, from what we know, only be available in the starter. It's why they were made. Wyrd also confirmed cards from wave 3 (and presumably this box) won't be available outside of the boxes they come in and the Shifting Loyalties book, not in arsenal decks.

They are unique units that have the Mercenary classification, so you'll be able to use the Guild models in your current Neverborn crews just fine. The Neverborn models add something unique the faction can't get elsewhere - solid shooting. Angel Eyes is meant to be pretty nasty. They're also Nephilim, so if you expand to Lilith in the future, they'll work well with her brood.

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

Angel Eyes and grimwell have had their cards revealed. That lobotomy is awesome. Plus more movement for dita.

Angel Eyes doesn't have a hefty damage track but she has insane triggers and doesn't randomise into engagements. She also heals two damage whenever she kills something.

Have a link for proof: http://wyrd-games.net/community/topic/109360-july-6th-starter-henchmen/

Angel Eyes isn't as nasty as Grimwell, but the ability to engage at that range and hit something locked in combat safely synergies well with any Neverborn crew, who tend to love melee. Since she's a Nephilim she can use Rapid Growth to pick off units to get some early grows in and has Black Blood, so she syngises particularly well with Lilith. Her damage trigger also gives you something to do with any high Rams you get, which is nice as Neverborn usually have little use outside of masks.

She's more straight forward than most Neverborn, but she's got some nice tricks. I can see her fitting in a lot of crews.

I'm already looking at Grimwell and Graves with Lilith. Show you the door and Doctor's orders has the potential to push a model quite far up the board.

Plus, Grimwell with Dita. Means she can potentially move 13" without wasting any activations,

From the perspective of a potentially interested player, the starter set isn't that enticing. 8 minis and incomplete rules for £45.

Confused as to why the full rulebook isn't included rather than an odd combination of cut-down rulebook and digital rulebook.

There's a softcover rulebook for £10, seems odd that they wouldn't just include it in the starter box.

Might as well just get it all separately, and have some more choice with the minis.

Well, it would help if you had correct information.

The digital rules manual is a PDF of the $10 softcover manual. There's also a physical introductory pamphlet that slowly introduces that game to you over 5 games. The only difference is you're getting a PDF, not a physical book.

That's an option. What you don't realise is the forces in the starter are balanced against each other, and are also entirely unique units. Not only will you and your opponent potentially be buying starters not balanced againse each other at all (if one of you bought, say, the Dreamer, and the other bought the Viktorias, the Dreamer player is fethed without more purchases), but if you decided you wanted the models from the starter, well, you'r buying it anyway.

While 4 models per side doesn't sound like much, remember that most of the time, you're usually maxing out at at most double that. Malifaux just doesn't use many models. A henchman, enforcer and a couple of minions form the core of most crews, and that's what you get.

The starter isn't going to be for everyone, but the reasoning here is just bizarre and/or wrong.

The starter really doesn't seem all that bad. Wish I didn't already own a massive Malifaux collection already haha, I could see some uses for a few of those models if I could fit them in the case...
