I play CSM and had a game this past friday night playing against necrons. I wanted to utilize as many long range AP4 shots as I could so I put a Havoc squad with (4) autocannons and my cheap 65 point Chaos lord into a bastion with quad gun, ammo store, and a void shield. The Lord manned the quad gun using his BS 5 and the Havoc squad re-rolled ones to hit using the ammo store.

This fire base dominated the entire match and was just wondering if anyone else had this much success with this kind of setup?

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

Thats good but I honestly just go 3x5 havocs with 4 AC each and just deploy in cover while I rush spawns and rhinos and everything to distract them.

If they wasted shooting at 115pts then my other high mobility gets in their face.

The quad gun has Skyfire... your BS is kind of irrelevant unless you're shooting at skimmers or flyers.

There were no flyers in this game, except for my own Heldrake. lol I used it on ground troops the entire match.

O I just reread the rules for skyfire and found out that the BS only counts toward flyers, MCs, and skimmers, anything else is fired as a snapshot. Well that sucks....

I saw that some people do this with Daemons of Khorne. Seems pretty dumb, would rather my chaos lord, herald or bloodthirster was out punching face even if it isn't as effective.

Yeah. It was nerfed from 6th to 7th as if dedicated AA options needed more nerfs :( Interceptor used to let you use full BS on all targets when combined with skyfire.

There should be some heavy bolters mounted on the bastion though. So there's a bit more AP4 there.

They do pretty well in general, even without a bastion. But there's little reason to take them over hades autocannon rapier teams, unless you really want the extra range, which can be worth it.
Actually if you want the range, a deimos vindicator laser destroyer is probably better yet. Slightly different role, but oh so devastating.

It works far better with a bunker so that all can fire, also cheaper.

Renegades have a better version. 6 autocannon teams (or lascannons as they are only 5pts more expensive), with covenant of tzeentch for bs2 snapfire. Throw in ammo dump. Also nice to attach a arch demagougue with a quad gun (and mutant overlord for likely +1bs) if worried about flyers. Against ground targets it gives 12 bs3 and 4 tl bs2 autocannon shots, against air it is 12 bs2 and 4 tl bs4/5 shots and against skimmers it is 12 bs3 and 4 tl bs4/5 shots. Worth the extra 30pts to make those 12 autocannon shots 6 lascannon shots I think.
