So, here's my situation:

last week at my FLGS, I played a pickup game of Orks vs Ravenwing (sorry, no batrep), but me and my opponent were the only ones playing 40k. a friend of mine said that if I could not find a pickup game, then we would play orks VS orks.

When my friend told me that, I was surprised as feth. I first thought "Why would the orks fight each other?" and then he said that it's in the fluff that they fight each other sometimes.

If it helps any, we would use a nob as another warboss model.

My question is: Would you play a game of orks vs orks? I'm a little unsure right now...

Two different ork bands would definitly fight each other. They litteraly live for a fight, no matter where it comes from.

Like most of their lives they fight each other, its only when a bigger better fight shows up they form up.

Yes, Orks fight each other all the time.

If they can find no non-Orks to fight, they fight amongst themselves. Sometimes to determine who is the right proppa biggest Ork, but most of the time, just because they like to fight and make up any reason they want (or no reason at all) to do so.

So yes, it's fluffy.

Orks will fight anyone, anywhere at any time. The only reason they aren't always a massive threat is because they're always fighting amongst themselves to gain superiority. When a powerful Warboss comes along, he can unite them through charisma and sheer brute force. Then they Waaagh!

When that Warboss is killed in the fighting, it more often that not stops the Waaagh! in its' tracks. Even though there are still thousands, if not millions, of Orks left those ones fight each other to see who will succeed the fallen Boss. Then their foes swoop in and destroy them while they are distracted fighting each other.

My friend who got me into 40K all those years ago stated that Ork vs Ork was likely the most common fight in the galaxy.

They fight each other all the time. If their current codex doesn't have rules reflecting the fact that they sometimes stop to do so mid-battle, then I can guarantee the last one sure did.

Yep! Dem Orkies love a good scrap, and who better to give it than another bunch.

In your case, divide up your army asymmetrically and play kan wall vs tide or vehicles vs aegis line...or make up a fluffy mission and have at it.

Orks are more than willing to fight each other. Look at Dark Crusade on the HQ raid for the necrons while you play as orks. After the battle, the surviving orks comment on the willingness of the warboss to leave men behind, and applaud him for it.

Also, in a Ciaphis Cain novel, The Last Ditch-? Orks literally gun each other down from behind while they charge at Cain and his group. Another example of orky lack of care for each other (not infighting, but adds to the depth of understanding) that they would be unlikely to look for a missing ork. (Caves of Ice this was mentioned in)

I guess a game of orks vs orks sounds all right now.

Orks vs Orks game is completey fluff friendly.

Ork Warbands fight eachother constantly (The main reason why they haven't overrun everyone else yet).

They usually fight over which-is-which when it comes to Gork And Mork and who represents what.

In fact, I do believe there was like a whole game about it called Gorkamorka at one point.

Orks were CREATED to fight.

They were the muscle created by the old ones to fight their wars.

They live to scrap. They don't care with whom. Panzees, humies, uvver orks, it matters not.

I'm sorry but what is wrong with you? I'd play Dark Angels vs. Dark Angels what does it matter? Some people are so weird

Any of it can make sense fluffwise. The more of the fluff you know the more you know any scenario could work

I honestly, sincerely cannot tell if the OP is trolling with this question. If you are seriously asking, then, yes, there is nothing more natural than to have Orks fight Orks. Even when there is an enemy in front of them, Orks often end up fighting each other over who gets the best gear, loot, who is the boss, etc. All of Ork "society" is based on conflict at every single level. It is amazing that they ever work together and, for that matter, they only work together because they have already fought and the winner has been determined.

Checking a posters history can really enlighten you sometimes... just saying.

Okay...I think orks vs orks is ok now. Problem solved. And no, I wasn't trolling.

Not only would I play an Ork vs Ork game, it may be the only way I would consider playing Orks. So much crazy thrown together rough housing, rabble rousing Orky goodness! It's the only right proppa way to find da biggest and meanest Orks dere is!

If they didn't fight each other we wouldn't see Nobz and Warbosses since it's through fighting that they trigger adolescent growth. They do stop when a charismatic and powerful warboss rises up, begins smashing other leaders to unite klans around him and triggers a psychic Waaaaaagh! beacon. From then on this gestalt Waaaaaagh! energy takes over and they become a united tide of green fury working together to smash anything not Orky. Kill the beacon (ie: Warboss) and unless there's another very powerfull Ork to take up the lead the whole thing will crumble into infighting. There are some kingdoms where the warboss keeps getting replaced by another one that is charismatic and powerful enough to keep the Orks united. The Overfiend of Octaria comes to mind before it got infested with Tyranids and Ghazzy came to take it over.

Edit add: It's perfectly normal for Orks to begin following the new more powerful Ork leader without a second thought of the death of their previous leader. It's Ork Kultur to follow the tuffest der iz.

The best games my Orks have ever gotten was against other Ork players.

Fluffy. As. Hell.

I've been looking forward to having my CSM fight other CSM as well.

The fluff outright states that if orks didn't constantly fight each other all the time they would have conquered the galaxy long ago.

Well, that is not exactly unique to the Orks.

It's true that they would be a greater threat if they did not do infighting... But that won't happen, because it is integral to their nature.

You must have never played Space Marines vs Space Marines... again and again and again. Because everyone plays Space Marines. Or even worse, two gunline armies against each other....

Orks fight other orks most of the time orks fight anything.

They only become a threat to non-orks when someone powerful makes them stop fighting each other for a while.
