The gun barrels could be drilled out, like the vox-grenade launcher guy, hull mount las cannon. I'm not a fan of the sentinel and Russ conversion, but I am fond of the subtle infantry and ogryn conversions.

Yea, I definitely agree on the barrelpart. It isn't really a problem with the lasguns as they are so tiny in comparison to for instance the grenade launcher. However in the lack of a drill I might be able to get it a little bit better by painting a black "hole". Thanks for the input!

I don't drill on the lasgun either, its the tank's hull las cannon I was referring to. The grey rock on the HWT looks off, it need more grain=drybrush effect. paintjob overall is great 9/10.

Hello!
As I mentioned in my first post I have a somewhat new approach to the hobby. The main issue that I has had before is that I got quite stuck with painting the same kind of models over and over again. What then happened is that I painted for a while, got bored, stopped and then picked up the hobby at a later stage. Maybe this is something a few other members on this forum can relate to?
The new idea I got late last year after having finished yet another batch of orks involves doing smaller project. Each one of these projects will be a nice way for me to practice different painting techniques and hopefully showcase models in a way that does them justice.
To make sure the projects stay small I've limited myself to roughly 750p worth of models.
On to some figures, namely a little chaos warband. The main focus in this project was to play around a little bit with the helbrute from Dark Vengence.
The next update should actually contain some work in progress, that'll be nice!

Thanks for the kind words guys!
I don't really have any models to show for the time being as I'm in the process of acquiring what I need for my next little project. However I've been working a fair bit on a solution for storage and display which I think is going faily well. As the chaos warband features less figures I thought it would be easier to start with them, besides I got something more fancy in mind for the vostroyans!
The basic idea is to insert sections of masonite in a landscape cut out of styrofoam. These sections will have slots for the models to make sure their bases line up with the surrounding terrain. I also added a thicker piece of masonite to the bottom for some added durability. By then it looked like this:
Next step was to smoothen out the landscape and take care of some gaps where the masonite meet the styrofoam. I did this in two layers, one with filler and the other one with filler mixed with some sand/fine gravel. As of today it looks like this:
If you have any questions/suggestions feel free to pass them my way!

Hello again!
The making of the chaos diorama actually went alot quicker than I expected! A thought that crossed my mind is if the colours might be a bit on the muted side. However I'm not sure this is something negative, it's just that I'm used to having some bright colour on my models (like the blue on the vostroyans). What do you guys think?
My best friend when it comes to the hobby is by far epoxy glue. It works wonders on all the different materials I've encountered... and it works fairly well as water effects. To add water like this is something new to me and I'll definately experiment more with it in the future. Some close ups:
Finally, as a little bonus I managed to get a nice picture on the evil lord himself (he'll get a nice backstory at some point)!

Personally i wouldn't bother with las guns as the aperture is tiny anyway.

Well this looks nice, solid paintjobs, especially on the Nurgelites.
One small thing to look at might be the basing, try not to make such large 'clumps' with the snow and grass, spread it out more and make it a bit more uneven, it looks ok with the grass but really wierd with the snow as there is no overlap or transition between the snowflock and the 'hot' tone of the red-brown mud. Try carefully drybrushing the base with a light grey topped by a few strokes of white before you add the snow flock to tie the two colurs together.
It will create the look of frozen mud peeking through the patchy snowcover.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

I guess they are still a fair bit on the big side? I'm not entirely convinced about the snow myself as it doesn't look that natural. You don't happened to have some ideas on how to improve the snow from it's current state as it is somewhat late to properly drybrush on the grey tones now

Well, thank you! It's the first time I try my hand at making a display like this and looking at the result it'll definately not be the last!

Hey!
I've put some work into the second display board and I'd say it's shaping up quite nice. The main concept is trenches, some barbed wires, rocks and of course snow to tie it in with the vostroyans. Speaking of snow, I've thought a bit about going over said vostroyans again and attempt to get a more realistic look. However I'm not really sure about how that's going to happened...
Thankfully matches are dirt cheap!
What do you think?

Yea, some sand bags might be a really good idea. I might be able to build some kind of emplacement where the heavy weapon teams are located.. or atleast some piles of sand bags.
Thanks for the nice input!

Also, another concept for sandbags:
Need a bit of work. These are bits of plaster wrapped in Zinc oxide tape (not much use to any of you that haven't done any climbing, I know, but...).
I may do the final versions with fresh putty so that I can mould them to the shape of the trench so that they look heavy and not like cushions.
