The AoS App is out with the same data as found as PDFs: rules and warscrolls.
Looks good to me.

It's pretty decent, I like the ability to tag warscrolls for your army - pretty much fixes what problems people have with having to scroll the pdf compendia during battle.

Although I have one gripe with it (aside from "get access to the battalion if you buy the rulebook in our app") - it still doesn't really do what it's supposed to, because during a battle you still need to have an army list and I thought this is the point - to not need to have it.

Most mobile army building apps let you do just that - build armies with equipment listed and point costs counted. Occasionally even lists the stats, but not always.

I'm thinking about sending them an e-mail with a few suggestions on how to make it good - at the worst I'll waste about 2 minutes of my life, at best it'll be a great app.

So the main things I'd change is:
- Sort warscrolls by race (having ALL the chaos entries listed is cumbersome to shift through, even though they're in faction order)
- Let you add multiple warscrolls to "My Battle" screen and choose loadout options

And what I wish it had to make it awesome:
- count up wounds and unit types to keep track while making the list (this would allow players to see how many war machines and monsters they have and compare them to army size) as we see that wounds seem to be balancing factor in their tournament rules pdf.
- a battle mode like War Room for Warmachine/Hordes where you can modify wounds of your models and generally keep track of the battle, including calculating and applying wounded stats and missing crew members on the go for monsters and war machines.

Any other ideas?

This way they could make the app be the only tool you need other than tape measure and dice, so it's even better for them and easier for us.

I wish there were a Windows Store version :(

I <3 my Surface Pro 3 more than the Sigmar app, hehe. And I don't want to lug around 2 tablets at my gaming table.

Tried the app. Not bad and like the direction GW is taking. I will be interested to see what other "in app" purchases other than the AoS book will be offered. While individual unit warscrolls appear to be free for the time being, it seems new formation warscrolls will be exclusive and will have to be paid, currently by buying the AoS book. I like how everything is sized for the type of mobile device you are using, i.e. phone or tablet.

The "My Battle" section seems just to be a handy way for put all in once place the warscrolls you are using for a given game. I guess it qualifies as a army builder tool, but given their is no inherent balancing mechanism (points, scrolls, wounds, keywords, etc.) I know most would not consider it a true army builder.

To one of your complaints, you can sort warscrolls by race. Once you go into whichever type they are (Order, Chaos, Death or Destruction) you can then sort it out by just one race, which is helpful.

My main struggle is there is no real way to sort things once you add them to My Battle. I was playing with a Skaven army of about 12 scrolls yesterday and there was no rhyme or reason to how things were sorted, so I just had to keep scrolling up and down to find things. If it let me organize them in an order of my choosing, that would go a long way, but even having a standard sort option would be nice.

The other complaint I have is that battle formations that I have already purchased in book form are behind a pay wall. For instance, I bought the starter box. But, I can't access the Goreblade Warband special rules on here unless I buy the digital version of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar for $50.

Also, as you said, the fact that there isn't the ability to build multiple lists and switch between them is a bit short-sighted too.

It is a good start and free is the right price for this, but I hope they continue to make it more robust and not just leave it as is.

My problem is I cannot get the Icon for the rules to work and I purchased the book through the app and cannot read the book. I can download but when I hit read nothing happens.

GW really needs to look at the War Room (warmachine) app for an idea of how it should be done. This is a good start and it is nice to see all the warscrolls in one place. They really need a better army builder on there. The one they have is next to useless.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

I've had this happen as well but it was just with the warscolls themselves.

I had to delete and reinstall the app and it fixed the issue.

Which formations? The Treelord one in the new book is from the Wood Elf PDF.

I believe the Stormhost/Khorne ones were in the WD. Or is that what you mean?

As an FYI for anyone wanting to comment, GW posted on their Warhammer app that they are looking for suggestions on the app at the following email address: gwapps@gwplc.com.

Haven't tried sending something yet, but might this evening.

Liking it so far. The rulebook is easy enough to use that I didn't find it that beneficial to read it on the app., but I found having the warscrolls all together and having the speed in browsing them far better than the alternative. The idea of a variation of microtransactions is a huge turnoff to it though. I'd love to be able to use the formations but have to purchase them? I'll pass.

There are a couple of glitches so far. Shades have Amber Bows and Woodsman Longswords. Also the night goblin boss on squig has ghal maraz, blacksmith hammers, and mighty hooves

I can't access the rules. I see a small i or something like that. Not sure if it means the rules are locked or not.

How do you access the rules?

I've sent them a quite texty e-mail and I'm genuinely curious if they'll reply. And (if they do) whether it'll just be one of those "we got your mail, thanks" automatically generated messages or actual reply.

Call me naive, but I like to believe that they'll actually try to be more open to keep in touch with their players if their critique is constructive.

Wow i really am impressed with the android app. I like that they show modern pics of all the units. I also like the ability to tag the units you are using for quick reference during a game. Sure beats books or the big pdfs.

Kudos gw... as a 40k player getting into fantasy skirmish, I am really liking aos now!
