Hi, I'm building a 5-man terminator squad with a librarian attached, they will deep strike using the nemesis strike force detachment. (only other unit in this small allied force is a Nemesis Dreadknight)

I've already built 3 of them (2x halberd, 1x hammer) but I'm really wondering how I should equip the other two GKT and the Librarian. Obviously I was thinking of putting a psycannon in there and I would also like to have a stave for some psychic defense but I don't know what I should give to who ?

I also find it quite annoying when my squad end up being 203 points (anyone else ?)

thanks!

if you can spare the points I like 4 Halbreds and 1 hammer.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

yeah that's what i was going for at first, but it add up to a weird 203 points which is not very cost effective as I would probably end up losing that 2 points

I'm also concerned with my Librarian loadout, as he will probably be the one taking challenges

and what about falchions at 4 pts instead of two halberds...and I would still like to have a stave in there, maybe on the librarian ?

except he's not wrong at the gist of his post which is "don't under estimate the simple sword"

I did. The fact that you built them with halberds doesn't change what the best loadout is. So build the other 2 with swords and give one a psycannon, then your Librarian gets your Staff (since he comes with one) and the optimal loadout for him is the Domina Liber Daemonica and Psyker Mastery Level 3.

Thanks for the precisions. Should I give my justicar a halbred or a sword ?

I would say sword, just to minimize points investments. Hammerhand will get you to S6 and with the Libby you'll most likely have higher priority spells for your opponent to deny, so the only time that S7 will come in handy is when you're going against the beefier MCs (Wraithknights, Kastellan Robots) which you most likely won't be fighting in a challenge or anything.

The only things I can think of that you might be fighting in a challenge where you want that Halberd to get you to wounding on 3+ are Ork Warbosses, Nurgle Biker Aspiring Champions, Great Unclean Ones, Nurgle Daemon Princes, and Dreadknights (I may be missing a unit or 2)

If you fight a lot of those and your best bet to beat them is with your terminator squad, then Halberd will be good. Otherwise I find it unnecessary.

Max Psycannons, 2 Hammers per 5 (not on the Justicar), and 2 sets of Falchions per 5. Give the Justicar Melta Bombs and Falchions. This set up maths out to be a great all rounder.

So if I were to ass a Brother-Captain / Grand Master, what ranged weapon should I give him, another psycannon or an incinerator ?

I'm tempted by the incinerator...

Psycannon makes use of the upgraded BS and the Relentless. Your Brother-Captain/Grand Master is also most likely going to be in a unit with other Psycannons, which means if he takes a Psycannon he'll be able to shoot at the same targets as the rest of the unit.

I have had good results with Hammer + psycannon, 4 falchions on my 5 man Terminators. With Hammerhand the falchions are amazing and even without it they are still better when charged and equally good when charging T4. T5 gives a slight edge to halberds when charging without hammerhand but when being charged or with hammerhand the benefit goes to the falchions. Also I think double swords looks cooler and they are easier to assemble.

Psycannons are the go to weapon for terminators as it gives you some anti AP2 shooting as well as being high str and good volume of fire. Leave your incinerators for the power armor infantry like interceptors or purifiers who don't have relentless.

Thanks, will definitely go with the psycannon on the HQ. I was browsing for some GK bits to make my libby and Brother-Captain and realized it's almost the same price to just go buy another box of GK termies. So since I'll have 3 extra terminators, should I make a Paladin squad ans stick my libby and Brother-Captain with them ?

You can make every one of your GK TDA from the GKT kit with the exception of Draigo, due to no Storm Shield. An appropriate Storm Shield is easy to get as a bitz, though.

Any time you have the option to buy an Incinerator or Psilencer but could buy a Psycannon instead, buy the Psycannon. Always. You need the anti-tank, you don't need more crappy Str 4 or even the useful but limited str 6 flamer.

Except that Psycannons are Salvo, so useless on moving PA, which is why it's the TDA weapon of choice. Incinerators are relegated to PA weapons as that are Assault. The only good Psilencer is the Heavy Psilencer, because it's mounts to a MC.

yeah I'm well aware of that...what I was wondering was if a minimum sized squad of 3 Paladins is worth it ?

thinking of attaching my libby and brother-captain to it to give them FNP and using the banner to boost both this squad and my terminators (both will DS on turn 1)

I've done some research and never heard of someone using a 3 man squad of Paladins...

basically I'm thinking of a way of using my 3 extras models from the second GKT box I'll have to buy to build my two HQs.

Paladins are never worth it. At T4, and most AP2 or better weapons being S 8 or higher, the 2 wounds you are paying for are lost just like the 1 wound you pay only 33 ppm for on GKT. You take Pallies for the extra Psycannon at 5 models, and for the Apothecary.

I run a terminator squad in a landraider with Coteaz and a warding staff Lib.

There are no "points to spare" like some posters have mentioned.

I like to keep them as cheap as possible and just take the ap3 swords on each and every dude.

They aren't powerful enough to be a versatile unit so you need to dedicate them to a single role.

With a warding staff and Coteaz' hammer plus hammerhand I can pop light transports and wound MC's.

hey what time is it?

I had some decent results running a 4 man paladin squad in my Godhammer Landraider (need that AT shooting or else it would be a Crusader). I put my Xenos Inquisitor in the unit which makes them becomes incredibly nasty in CC.

Unless you're facing AV13+, I believe the MM and AC combo on the Crusader makes it the superior AT platform as well. Math out to roughly even @24'' and Crusader jumps ahead @12''.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Jeffersonian has a hate-on for paladins. They're not autoincludes by any means, but there are several ways to use them to great effect, and 10 terminators is not always automatically better. You need Draigo, though, and you always want 5 Paladins for the psycannons, no more, no less.

I wouldn't call it a Hate-On, just pointing out that Paladins are currently overcosted and only worth taking at 5 or more, which you just re-posted.
