Unless it's a part of the Decurion/Gladius style Detachments where all the included Formations are one big Detachment.

And the smaller ones. The Demi Company in a Gladius is still a detachment that's part of the Gladius Formation and Detachment, right?

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

No. A model can not be in multiple Detachments. So the model that is in a Demi Company is in the Gladius Detachment. The Demi Company in that example is not a Detachment.

Not true, there are examples of models being in more than one Detachment. The Gladius is one example, it even states as such in the description for how to use it.

-EDIT-
although i suppose it ends up being in two formations, one detachment...

From 'Choosing an Army' in Codex Space Marines:

Although units cannot normally belong to more than one Detachment, units from a Formation that is part of a Gladius Strike Force are an exception. They count as part of both their Formation and the Detachment, and have all associated Command Benefits and special rules.

Nope, just one Formation and one detachment.

Though, there are super Formations where a model is part of two Formations, sort of.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?
