An HQ? Is this a joke? Bringing this guy to a 500 points game guarantees a victory. Not even the Wraithknight can deal with him. Not to mention, people have access to him as part of allies detachment too easily. Just Belakor and some stupid cultists. I personally think Belakor should be a Lord of War. He is much stronger and more expansive than most Lords of War right now.

I'm first in line to say that 40k is imbalanced, but this is definitely your problem here.

Bringing most any 350pt model in a 500pt game will dominate it. Even something near-universally regarded as UP.
Play a 500pt game some time against 'Nids, let the 'Nids player bring a tooled-up Trygon Prime. Or heck, tone down the points a bit and let him bring a Tyrannofex and a Haruspex. You'll have trouble handling those at 500, believe you me. In a 2000 point game, they melt. So no surprise that Be'lakor is meevil at those point values - he's more than half the entire force, alone.
Try him in a 2000 point game, though. Yes, invisibility hurts and psychic shriek can leave a mark, but he's easy enough to handle there.

he is only T5 with 4W. anything that ignores cover will ruin his day.
in 500 points, well, thats 500 points. You could go unbound and bring a wraithknight in a 500 point game. Almost all of 40k is unbalanced, especially in 500 point games, there is little access to the popular counters that exist in a game, 3, 4 times the size.

Personally, ive found him kind of underwhelming. I would almost always choose a tooled up lord of change over him for 45 points less. Exception would be vs. Orks or some other low leadership army.
If they released a belakor that knew all the powers from biomancy, i would change my mind. But then again, i dont use invisibility because i detest it's effect on games, so i probably dont really utilize him to full potential. Also I play 1500 absolute minimum, so my opponents dont have much problem removing him before he has many turns to be effective.

A lot of people saying that using Ignore Cover weapons will beat him. But let us not forget he still has 3+ armor to chew through, and most weapons that Ignore Cover have low AP value. Belakor can also use Invisibility, making him untouchable for the rest of the game.

He has a 4+ invul, no armour.
Invisibility is the big one !Yes an invisible belakor can chew through 500 pts ,butt he doesn't have a tonne of attacks, so any decent tarrpit can hold him. And if he's casting he's risking perils.

also, if he keeps casting invisibility on himself, I wouldn't care, he is honestly quite underwhelming in combat, and because of that, I don't see the issue, with no shooting, he is just sitting there, doing nothing, maybe contributing a few warpcharges or something of the sort.

It depends on what hes in combat with. His armourbane/fleshbane sword is a huge deal when fighting anything worth a decent amount of points.

I guess so.
I have only played him once or twice, and he kinda just ran around doing nothing and casting invisibility on himself.
He killed a few wracks once but that was about it.

They doesn't even stop Chaos Daemons from bringing Be'lakor to 500 pts. Also chaos doesn't even have a good LoW to take so all you are doing is giving them a free slot to take Be'lakor in. Also you are playing 500 pts. The game doesn't work at 500 pts. It barely works at 1000.

To the OP: I'm not sure what your issue with Be'lakor is. He's the First Daemon Prince of Chaos. Stands to reason he'd be powerful.
Have you considered asking your opponent not to field him in small games?

Tarpit all the way. Belakor cannot chew through even a 30 grots blob very fast. That will hold him back at least several turns. And also, he doesn't have any ranged weapon except for his psychic powers. On a side note, I once brought 2 LRBTs to a 500 points game, alongside a CCS and 2 Veteran Squads. Cue rage from my friends.

If they use him in a 500 point game just bring the anti-psyker assasin.
Bal then hits on 5s in combat whilst being hit on 3s. Can't cast crazy spells etc.

Chuck a large blob of Necron Scarab Beetles at him. Good luck with him quickly getting through that tarpit. Even if he eventually does, it will take him a good couple of turns to do so.

He has st7 attacks so he IDs them. You are looking at him killing 3 or 4 bases each assault phase.

That is true, but since they are relatively cheap, you could tie him up for maybe two turns if you've got the numbers.

I don't think its bad, but any time someone brings up a discussion on what points level the game works best, there is no consensus, because the game is entirely different at each level. 250 pts - one or two squads against the same. Possibly Kill Team, using small unit tactics. Game feels like hero hammer 500 pts - Low-Tier armies get to win here 750 pts - "I don't have enough for 1k plus games, so here's a Rhino, a unit of Eldar Guardians, and a handful of Space Marines" 1000 pts - Medium level engagements. Restricted choices, cannot cover whole meta without using cheese. 1500 pts - Medium level engagement. Not much restriction, can cover most of the meta. 1750 pts - Tourney standard. Most anything can/will be fielded. 2000 pts - Large engagements. Whole collections may get used, the game is mostly about killing stuff better. 2500 pts - "My collection is getting a bit large" 3000 pts - How many of "X" can I field before I get sick of them? Apocalypse - Balance? Never heard of it.
