I'm going back to old Plog threads I haven't visited in a couple of months, and "first unread" takes me the second to last page showing posts only a couple of weeks old at the most.

Have you recently used the "Mark all threads as read" option?
That screws up my "First Unread" something royal.

K.
I wonder if it goes back to a server backup or change that legoburner made.
Sorry, can't help ya.

There have been one or two server events over the last couple of years that have reset the First Unread, I think.
Although I've also been caught out a few times when I have accidentally clicked on a thread that I didn't mean to and backed out immediately... but then come back to read it later
Under normal running, though, First Unread shouldn't matter how old the first unread post is, so far as I'm aware.

I rebooted the site a couple of days ago to get some backup processes working properly, and if you were signed in at the time it might have mucked up your last unread settings. It will sort itself out within 14 days from when you first saw the problem, so sorry about the inconvenience between now and then!

Tangentially related,
I sometimes find that a thread repeatedly takes me back to an old First Unread marker for some time, before ultimately jumping forward to the correct point and subsequently sticking again. This can happen even if I've made a subsequent post in that thread.
This is most obvious for me in the Mierce thread in News and Rumours, so I suspect it may be something to do with the high number of images, but I'm no coder.
