Hello People Of Dakka

I Am Recently Having Problems Effectively using Guardians in my list

Any one have ideas on to use them to maximum effectiveness

You really have 4 ways to use them.

1) Avatar. He makes them extremely good for their point cost, with Fearless and actually being credible in assault. 2 Bladestorming shots before charging in with 3 Str 4 attacks which re-roll to hit isn't half bad for 9pts.

2) Warhost. Units of 20 using the free weapon you get. Stick a Warlock in their for conceal. No one will come within 24 inches of you if they value their lives.

3) Wave Serpents. Much like throwing a 5 man Dire Avenger unit in their, a 10 man Guardian unit works just as well. Less range, but more shots and more expensive. Pick your preference.

4) Camper. Take a 10 man unit with a long ranged weapon. Sit on an objective and hope nothing scary comes you way to contest you.

Guardians are best used in two ways: either camp the objective, or use the Warhost's extra mobility to run across the field to take objectives.

If you want to run a squad in a Wave Serpent, Dire Avengers are better.

Yeah they can be a challenge, but running them in a battlehost with an avatar is what I have been working up too ( needed all the models for the host). But if you make sure you dont get charged, you can shoot, with 20 shots, and then charge with 30 S4 attacks on the charge. I plan on bumping up my guardian squads to more then 10, but currently do not have the models,i mean 40 bladestorm shots and then 60 attacks on the charge, awesome! so they maybe weak but you should be able to kill something and win combat and even if you dont, the avatar makes them fearless, so they are not running, you can tie up a unit for a turn or 2. The other thing to do is camp objectives with your free heavy weapons, which I think should be EML since they are so versatile and you are getting them for free. I would not put them in a serpent, dire avengers work better as mentioned.

But to be fair in all this, people will laugh at you for taking guardians since if you play eldar we are supposed to play with jetbikes, and wraithknights only.( I do not) I think the battlehost can be supported by good units and be a completely viable option. I have seen way to many armies take all my scatter laser fire and make all thier saves, its disgusting, but at ap6, it everyone gets a save lol.

ive been thinking about this though... if you play a guardian battlehost, the guardians are cheaper and stronger (kinda). they get more bladestorm shots, objective secured plus the wave serpent gets it. on top of this a wep platform and assured 6 inch run increases there effective range. the only issue is they can be assaulted right after being at a 12 inch range. If you are running 3 warwalkers/support batterys the prefered enemy bonus and all surely outweighs the bs increase and snap shot special rule you would take advantage of right?

The Eldar Warhost does not grant Objective Secured. Also, Dire Avengers have a better armor save, better leadership, and longer range while remaining just as mobile. In my experience, the Preferred Enemy bonus from the Guardian Battlehost only applies if your opponent has maneuvered their units to get close to the Guardians.

The Guardian vs. Dire Avenger debate is a long one. Both units have their benefits and drawbacks. Personally, I footslog my Guardians to camp close objectives while my Dire Avengers ride in a Wave Serpent to take far objectives. Ultimately, it some down to a player's overall strategy and playstyle for their army.

they really dont get obj sec... wattt that ruins my plans!?!? admittedly i havent played 40k in many years so my advice is pure speculation but i was under the impression troops got obj sec similar to lion/demi company of the space marines

edit - i guess you just get it with a cad right? still why wouldnt guardians in a transport be something you want. obj secured on a wave serpent is pretty good though i guess you could also use it with dire avengers
