How viable would it be to have LotD as the main detatchment? They have the potential to be OP as balls, from what I've read, but there could be some glaring weaknesses that I could be missing.

They're one of the best SM options. Melta Ignores Cover will hurt most Skimmers. They can also do minimum Plasma Squads but I like Sternguard for that.

For being the primary force? Their Warlord Traits don't entirely suck, so there's that.

Dont they have T1 auto lose issues or did that get fixed?

I was wondering the same thing, though they had a Rule requiring them to Deep Strike.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Only if they updated the mini-dex will they be viable solo. As a detachment? I plan on running them as soon as I paint them lol. They got a huge buff with ignoring cover.

It's the same complaint with Deathwing: If you're only running ONE unit in the army, it's pretty boring.

Its not really the same.

You can deploy Death wing landraiders on the table and not auto lose.

Codex:Legion of the Damned all MUST deploy in reserved and has no way of T1 deep striking so at the end of game T1 they auto lose..

At least that was the original complaint. i do not have the digital edition to see if that was fixed.

Unfortunately, LotD must either take allies or be an ally, do to GW's inability to understand their own rules. Yet, I love my LotD army, and I love having them arrive just in the nick of time to pop me some OP jinkers! So yeah, you have to run them with something else. Mine keep my Knight Titans from getting lonely.

Jeffersonian000,
That caused me to picture an imperial knight tucked into a giant bed, cuddling one of the damned like a teddy-bear in the crook of one arm.

I don't think you can. There is nothing in the land raider rule to override the Deathwing (or what ever rule it's called) that they still have to deep strike still. You might have deep striking land raiders though.
