We know you can shoot at units locked in combat but what if your a unit locked in combat with a ranged weapon and close combat weapon. Can you shoot in the shooting phase out of combat and then carry on with the melee in the close combat round?

Yes you can, but line of sight might be tricky with the enemy in your grill

There is no such thing as locked in combat. Being within 3" of an enemy has some rules effects but there's not concept of "this unit is in close combat with the enemy so that is all it can do"

A lot of places are doing house rules on the matter. Check with the event organizer/store owner/opponent before just doing it. Of course, if you're playing at a GW, they likely won't have any limitations. So asking is probably unnecessary. But if you're playing at a non-GW location, check with the host. That includes at your friends' houses if they don't like it.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Shooting in combat seems to work well in my experience. Infant, games I have watched others play with the house rule of not allowing shooting in combat, seems to severely cripple the shooting units power.

Just be careful of LoS issues though. They can see through themselves but not enemy models.

Yes, melee units get up into missle troops very fast.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

My wife (playing tomb kings) owned me with a big unit of skeletal archers.

They are tall enough in combat that they can shoot over the the top of the units they are engaged with. So she 2 for oned my army for most of the game.

Just remember that you can only shoot in YOUR turn, but you can melee is every turn.
