Hi guys,
the Games Workshop web page listed recently new bases (round and oval) for (i think) mostly Warhammer AoS. What do you think? Good/ bad or something of both?
http://www.games-workshop.com/de-DE/Malen-Basteln?N=102383+4294967194&Nu=product.repositoryId&qty=12&sorting=phl&view=table&_requestid=6564100

Btw for which unit would you use which base? I am a Skaven collector and i think about to take a 105mm x 70mm base for my new Doomwheel.

I like the oval bases for larger, longer models (like my Lord Celestant from the AoS Box set). I could see someone using them for bike bases in 40K as well. Little more real-estate make your bikers look good, and adds some stability so they are not falling sideways all the time.

The "medium" ovals (90mm x 52mm) would work pretty well for a Dreadnaught or other larger, broader model.

Im going to be putting chaos knights on the 65mm x 35mm oval bases.

160mm round O.o
That's massive... I'm guessing GW expect Soul Grinders and the like to go on that? I'd expect they're too wide to fit on the 170mm long oval base. (I mean they're legs, since on the big rectangle bases the claws sit in the corners of the base)

Yeah I was wondering what to put my mournfang cavalry on and my ironblaster on. Their on 100x50mm rectangle bases but not sure what size oval base to put them on?

I typically just laser some MDF into an appropriate size. I've noticed the white glue sticks to it a lot better than plastic as well, much easier to work with basing materials.

Isn't 105x70mm the go-to base for big war machines like war altar, hurricanum, khaine's shrine, bigger chariots and stuff like that? As for mournfangs I am fairly sure they're supposed to be on the 90x52mm oval bases that are in AoS starter set. That Dracoth is no smaller than a mournfang and mournfangs don't have pointy tails. I'm still in progress of searching for mine to try fitting it on the base. >.>

Edit: managed to find my mournfang and took a few pics. Quality is bad due to phone camera, but it should suffice.

Lord-Celestant next to a mournfang mounted on the 90x52mm oval base. That dude is huge!

Two Bloodcrushers - left one on the original round base from it's kit, right one on the AoS oval base. Right one looks definetely better - less dead space, more dynamic feel with narrow bases.

Demigryphs... look equally awkward on both the new and their old bases. Quite narrow but long-ish models due to their tails, in both cases some dead space (tho the knights' legs add a bit width to the model), although the oval one seems to be better. Might try the oval cavalry bases once I get a hold of one, but I think it might be bit short.

So, yeah, I hope this was helpful. I believe these bases are the go-to monstrous cavalry bases. Funnily enough savage orc boar boyz' boars seem to be extremely happy on those bases, especially the galloping one as it's the most outstretched model in the unit, making it as long as a mournfang! :-D

My Staghorn is on a rectangle 150x100mm base, I've ordered the oval 170x105mm base for it.

Was anyone else's starter set missing bases for the models? If so are we supposed to by the separate pack for our stuff now?

My starter had all the bases in it. The only thing was it seemed the assembly guide said to use the wrong size of base for one of the chaos characters - I think it said to use a 32mm when the base provided for that character turned out to be 40mm.

Just go to the Games Workshop store or your hobby shop and I'm sure they'll give you whatever bases you need, or just swap your starter set for you.
