my space marine chapter is the skull gaurd! The planet they live on has a extremly hard to live on surface but higher up in the atmosphere it has more hospitable conditions. the people live on gigantic walking cities similar to the larger titans but they have no guns. instead of underhives the lower down you get to the titan cities legs the more and more its like the underhive.
the chapter consists of roughly 1500 marines and there is also a regiment of imperial guard there. the imperial gaurd are incredibly well equipped because the cities must manufacture everything to keep them runniong so there is lots of factorys making gear! the skull guard are led by a single council master who is also the ruler of the nearby planets!
please tell me what you think of my fluff and if you notice anything that is impossible (by 40k standards) please tell me. thanks

1. Why 1500 marines? Most Chapters are 1000 men only, with some auxiliaries. Unless the Chapter is non-codex compliant, which would earn it some enemies from the Ultramarine successors.
2. Which Chapter are these guys descended from?
3. Colour scheme?
4. Preferred combat strategy/ enemy/ location?
5.By the way, it's Guard, not Gaurd.

I would advise against it, seeing as most Chapters (as in, 99% of Chapters) are Codex Compliant, but at the end of the day, your dudes. I'd personally like to hear a better reason though.

As I mentioned, Imperial Fists sound like a decent match, but Salamanders or Iron Hands could also work nicely? All of these are fairly competitive Tactics to use, so that's an added buff.

A chapter that dislikes the codex with a passion, and likes to lay siege! And the colour choice sounds good too.
Now give us a bit more background and we all will be happy as hogs in mud

Most chapters have a whole lot more scouts than recorded.

you can do a later founding from them which would be funny.

You could name all their captains after Characters from Takashi's moving castle!

Seriously though, I like the mad walking city thing. It's bonkers of course but so are most of the SM founder chapter worlds.the rule seems to be "Pick an extreme and go nuts" so walking cities it is! There must be some cool names out their for the cities! Alexandria, Troy... Or maybe cities that have historically resisted siege.

How do the people of (name that planet of nomadic metro-bots) eat? I assume their food can't be farmed by folks on the surface... So what? Hydroponics walkers? This is the kind of stuff that adds a little reality to the clearly bonkers but really cool concept.

The planet is called ucion (pronounced OO-see-on). and the governing body distribute food packages made from minerals and the food packages directly distribute nutrients and protien into the persons bloodstream. actual food is available but expensive because it has to be imported.
as a result most people from there have weak taste buds.

the chapter helped hold back one of failbaddons black crusade
but took ridiculous casualty's. they then recruited more than codex strength because they never again wanted to be on the brink of annihilation. they have a hatred for the black legion in all its forms. they begamn training and have practiced non traditional training and built up a suprising endurance for pain.
(to represent this i use iron hands or red scorpion chapter tactics) they dont know there succesor because they were never officially founded. they were found fighting in allegiance to the imperium so after stringent tests of purity they became a recognized chapter.

I find it somewhat odd that your planet has more than one capitol, but I can see the reasoning behind it but still. And space marines that live or recruit from a city named after a city of rowers on old Terra I find amusing

They were just found? No records of them or anything? So they just found a thousand humans clad in marine armour and decided, 'Meh, good enough' and made them into a chapter? What?

and yes they were just found. my friend and i are running a campaign and at the end of it we will find out who there papa chapter is.

as to the question of them having 2 capitols? when did i name 2 capitols.

Chapters aren't just **found**. Each one represents a powerful military asset that can conquer whole sectors. It would be like finding a tank in your garden. It just doesn't happen.
However, to get around your issue, the Chapter could've been founded, just created, but the Administratum lost the form of gene-seed donor, and no-one in the Chapter knew who they were descended from?
I like the Tactical to Devastator progression, could mean that the marines who wield the squad's heavy weapon are veterans of the squad?

This I dare say has gone from promesing to somewhat disheartening really in some regards, but I agree with Sgt_Smudge, the progresion system seems like a good idea. The Adeptus Astartes doe not need to use the inferior weapons of the guard as their own arms & armoured vehicels is far supperior to that of the Imperial guard.

But you really, really need to work on the whole background fluff a lot more! Listen to the adivce given to you from other users. And yes the origins/ gene seed donors could have been lost/ locked away due to reasons by someone of great power.

This needs a lot of work. A LOT of work.

What might help you is describing 'why' things are happening or 'why' your chapter do specific things.

WHen you say they hate Ultramarines, you really have to go into why they hate them. And not just because it's fashionable to hate on them either.

I think you should sit down, have a good look at other people's fluff on Dakka Fiction (there is a ton of excellent homebrew Marine Chapters on here) and take it from there.

This feels unplanned and bit anaemic.

thanks for the feedback. i play games and campaingns with my friend and we all develop the story of our armys so i most of the stupid things (like they were "found" sorry) will be figured out in some later game. for example my friends played a necromunda campiagn on my world and we decided to play on our friends HUGE imperator class titan. so walking titan cities for my people. i apologize but i cant really be updating this because im going on vacation so this thread is pretty much dead(at least until 2 months later but i doubt any1 will care at that point)
