Subject: The new USAriadna army pack. Looks to be a good way to start. Thoughts?
Ok, I'm a sucker for the Good 'Ol USofA, so when I saw this box while looking at the Halo Fleet battles game on the Warstore, I immediately like it!
I'm thinking about getting started with infinity, but I don't want to dig myself into a hole where I can't possibly win a game. How do the USAriadna perform in game?
Also, will this box be available at Gencon?
One of them filthy casuals...

There hasn't been that much experience with the army that's just out and is missing half its range.
From what I've seen, they're very mobile. MI with mechanised deployment is potent. Foxtrots make decent speed bump and specialists. Motorcycles are amazing camouflage counter, they also provide smoke screen so others can advance across more risky areas. They are a new army that shows the age of older sectorials.
The box is a good buy, if USA is your thing.

It will be, but not sure in numbers.
As mentioned we don't really have a "good" handle yet, especially considering that there are a few units(Blackjack Heavy Rangers, The Unknown Ranger, and Desperadoes immediately spring to mind--but there's probably one more I'm blanking on) we still don't actually have stats for and likely there are missing profiles for the ones we do have stats on.
The important thing to understand in any case is that the USAR Army Box is basically the only way that an Ariadnan army could be given a "starter" on par with most others. Starters usually average in the 140-150 point range--the starter component of the USAR Army Box(3x Grunts, Minuteman, Foxtrot Ranger, and Marauder) comes out to anywhere between 90 to 104 points by itself. The Maverick and Devil Dogs puff it up.

The important thing to know about Infinity is that the factions are very well balanced, so winning or losing a game happens during the game, not during list-building or faction selection.

I'll bet on a 20 order pool with heavy camouflage elements over a list with only 10 orders (BoW report, Igor versus Ash). List with a good internal synergy and toolbox, over a list that prioritised visual aesthetics rather than mechanical play.

In a straight killing game, I would agree with you.
When missions/ITS come into play it might be hard to complete some objectives. Currently outside of the spec ops, there is no way to get a hacker. Even then some tournaments do not allow spec ops. Will be interesting to see what the rest of the units bring skill wise.

USAR will be a competetive army, just like all the other factions in Infinity.
Some have a harder time with certain objectives, but can compensate for that with an easier time dealing with other objectives.
USAR has no hidden deployment, nor Airdropped troops (unless the PAratroopers get some version of it) Airborne infiltration doesn't count.
Strong link teams, cheap fodder, good cheap specialists with Foxtrot and biker Forward Observers.
They will be the flavor of the month, and they will be fun to play.

Most of my main objectives are claimed by forward observer. Classified objectives are hit or miss for me too, believe it or not.

Regular Van Zant's expensive but worth his points. Tactical Jump, Stealth and Dogged is a very nasty combination of skills. Played right he can hamstring an army single-handedly.
Executive Order Van Zant, very niche and likely not going to be worth the drawbacks in most armies.

This month sees the release of the Grunts special weapons box, so it's a natural expansion to what you have. Adds more beefy firepower to your line infantry.

To clarify this a bit better...
The Grunts special weapons box is an "August release"(but not really).
When Corvus Belli announces something for sale at the end of a month, it's not available until at least the middle of the next month if you're here in the US and preordered via The Warstore(they're not just a retailer but also a distributor so they tend to get things a few days, if not a week prior to other retailers).
It's why sometimes you'll see me posting in the News & Rumors thread with goofy names like "Augber" or "Julust".

Start with just the box, play a few games and gain an understanding of the game, and CB's release schedule. For all we know, there will be USAriadna specific-- minis or possibly units-- engineers and doctors coming.
You'll find the crew that plays at Victory to be a pretty good bunch. If you head over there.

Units? No.
Minis? Probably not for either of those potential profiles, unless they have unique weapon load-outs. As it stands, you have access to two Paramedic options(Grunts and Marauders each have a Paramedic option) in addition to the 112.
The 112 and Traktor Control Dozer Engineer are safe purchases at this juncture. They're not "locked" to any one subfaction, and I sincerely doubt we'll see another Engineer--especially one toting the TCD.

Carlos stated in his seminar from GenCon that they expect to have a release for USAriadna every month through the end of the year.
Unfortunately, he also stated that the Blackjacks weren't even designed yet, and the Unknown Ranger would probably be seen at next years GenCon :(
We will see the rest of the profiles available to USARF in HSN3, most likely at the end of the year/Xmas season.
Lots of options on how you want to run this force. Mid-line game, fast bikes, heavy hitters, loads of cheap troops, infiltrators and camo.

Uhhh, you must not have watched the Seminar video.
This exact scenario is happening.
MRRF is being moved to Acheron's Fall and having some redesign, while USARF is taking their place in HSN3.
Also, Shasvastii are being replaced with the CA First Contact Onyx Force.
HSN3 is likely to come out at the end of this year if we are lucky.
So, we should see the remaining 4 USARF profiles then.

Its worth adding that the MRRF and Shasvastii sectorials and their existing profiles are going to remain ITS legal and available in Army 5 until their revamps come out in AF.

No, I hadn't - good to know my guess was right! My nephew has been waiting for the EI sectorial, so he'll be happy. Pretty sure my brother wants to jump on USARF too.

As mentioned, we're not sure if this is "the full EI Sectorial".
Onyx Force is EI units and the Trihedron Tohaa stuff.

Played my first three games tonight against Tohaa (sp?). Running through the scenarios in ice storm. First game was 3 rangers, second game added a marauder as my LT and the third I dropped in Van Zant. Got tabled all three games. Not sure how badly my decisions were. It seemed that he had a great counter to my force (bio ammo makes my good armor useless). Not sure exactly what I could've done differently, but it was a good intro to the basic mechanics. Suppressive fire seems like a good way for me to run, at least with what I've got so far. I'm trying to think of a good way to incorporate forward observer tomorrow night. What would be the better option, the maverick or the foxtrot?

Tohaa dislike flamethrowers of any kind. They tend to bunch up a bit due to multiple fireteams, and their super tough guys wear symbiont armour, which if hit by a flame weapon and fail their armour save, instantly pass to the dead state. IIRC Grunts have good access to flame weapons?
Overall though, you're probably just going through learning pains. Infinity plays much unlike any other wargame. It'll take a while to get used to it.
