Greetings,
I'm stuck in trying to get back into 40k and picking Eldar or DE. I want a mech list like I used to play like 4years ago which was eldar, but digging the new DE. I know I can mix both armies now but that's later down the road.

So my question is which transport is more durable NOW with decent firepower to weather the storm while holding or taking objectives?
Looking at 2-4 transports & rest of the pts ill fill out with bikes, jump infantry, and a heavy tank or 2.

Thanks Dakka

with that preference, you will likely prefer Eldar over their fallen cousins. The raider though does have a couple things going for it (okay, one): it is open topped, so its occupants can put out a boatload more shots than the Wave Serpent.

If you're looking for durability, it's wave serpents hands-DOWN. Decent firepower too, though the new codex nerfed serpent shields a bit.

That being said, they're quite a bit more expensive than raiders, so it's a quality over quantity comparison.

Serpents are still crazy good. It is just that everything else in the Eldar dex is amazing now.
Depends what you are transporting really. Want to assault? Then raider.

Do you want APCs and battle tanks, or just fast platforms?

DE don't do traditional mech. Their boats don't provide a lot of protection. But they are also cheap, and don't inhibit firepower. Your Kalabites will generally shoot from the boat.

CWE are APCs and Battle Tanks. Heavily armored and well armed. They'll survive, and get your people where they want to go. But your people can't fight until they get out. And they disembark from behind and cant assault. Usually with short ranged weapons. Also, the transports generally cost as much or more than what they carry. But you get what you pay for.

If you like mech in that everyone rides on vehicles into combat, that's DE.

If you want sturdy battle tank APCs protecting your infantry until they deploy them in position, and your infantry to do nothing but wait until they're dropped off, that's CWE.

Very different styles.

Another way to put it? Look at the Venom/Vyper chassis. The Eldar have their far-future awesome sports car.

Dark Eldar look at a maneuverable sports car and think, "Hey, hack off the top and we can throw five guys in it, and get them into the middle of the action lickety-split!".

CWE look at the same sports car and think, "Useful scout! Now we could wire in a heavy weapon back there, and get mobile firepower at minimal risk to Eldar life!".

To which Dark Citiers reply "Why the hell would you automate all the fun!"

So which style feels better? Awesome tech allowing you to throw away Eldar lives to have some fun? Or awesome tech protecting each priceless human life as much as possible in a warzone?

Despite both being Eldar and having basically the same tech and history, the two main Eldar factions have very, very different military doctrines.

I was going to write something but that pretty much cleared it all up.
Also, the word "druable" was mentioned in the OP. I hardly ever think of DE as being durable. Fast and able to jink? yes, but durable doesn't come to mind. I dont think many DE players make it to the end of the game with any of their vehicles in tact.

Wow thanks everyone, that's why I love Dakka everyone's quick to help.

Quality vs Quanity is my major concern. Though after reading everyone's comments and reading codex reviews for the last 3-4hrs I think I'm leaning towards DE. I'll get a few more transports/units (raiders/venoms) to use/sacrifice to push/pull enemies into position before I strick vs playing conservative with fewer units. Which is exactly how I played my mech eldar all those years ago.

Plus after reviewing all the units in each codex, I'm really digging scourges or hawks. And incubi just look mean.
