so I recently bought 1500 points of imperial guard, and its a pretty well rounded force, a blob of guardsmen supported by russes and assassins.

Anyways, are grey knights a good ally option for guard. They seem to add good CQC abilities, some cool magic support, and some alpha strike options. And the guard add bodies and anti-tank to the grey knights. It seems like a match made in heaven.

so if I were to start grey knight allies (something I want to do) what should I buy. Or is it even worth the effort.

happy wargaming,

Grey Knights are fun allies for IG. Use your IG as a gunline and then be aggressive with the GK. Dreadknights are amazing, take as many as you can. GK Librarians are also very good. My recommendation would be:

Level 3 Librarian
2x 5 Terminators
Dreadknight

That's about 500 points. If you want more I would add:
Another dreadknight (if you want)
10 Purifiers
Maybe a stormraven if you want a flyer

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

Dread-knights work fantastic on a gun-line. They can teleport to objectives, lock up tough units in CC, and just sit back and shoot if it suits them. I've never thought of this but how nasty would Gate of infinity be with a 50 man blob? Oh that squad right there? Heres 150 lasgun shots into it! HAHAHA.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

awesome.

With my current money on hand I will buy 10 terminators a dreadknight, librarian, then 10 purifers and 10 interceptors and a rhino.

rules wise: yeah, they give you good psychic powers and melee options, and are an all around cheap and fun army
fluff wise: it fits, though all of your guardsmen will be killed after every battle with the grey knights there.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

No worries, most of them will die on the battlefield, anyway!

Seriously, though, a small Nemesis Strike Force is an excellent addition to any Imperial army. Except for Sisters.

aww. I love all the fluff of 40k, and currently have all my guardsmen named with custom fluff.

My poor cadians!

The armies complement each other very well, and in game, it would be quite strong, however I don't want my poor guardsmen to die.

I think I will still tank the plung. Dreadknights are good, but I really don't like how they look, so I think it might be a better choice for me personally to stay away from them (they look a lot like baby carriers) and just take more terminators.

I just go by the rule of cool, and just kinda use models I like because its hard for me to have fun if I am not invested into my game/army.

If you're looking for melee bite that won't leave your Cadians dead, Inquisition might be a better bet. Squads of crusaders+death cult assassins lead by priests are quite nasty, especially if there's an Inquisitor buffing them.

Just thinking that you'd get bored with the Grey Knights due to the fluff (also, we're not that great at close combat besides Dreadknights...)
