so I started a thread a while back asking the best baneblade varient, and I have my mind set on the hellhammer.

However, is it worth the $140 buying a giant super heavy when I only have 1500 points of guard. Should I put my hard-earned money elsewhere?

Should I buy more russes/heavy artillery instead of one giant basket?

I am thinking against buying one, but if you feel I should shift my position on the baneblade I would love to listen, as purchasing one of these is quite the investment.

I think this because I will not bring it in even a forth of the games I play, as my FLGS looks down upon super heavies and GMCs in normal, non-apocolypse games.

anyways, happy wargaming,

-Mikey

Well first off there are probably a lot of things to spend that money on beside toy soldiers if you really want to hear a voice of reason.

Second off, it's a great kit, and I paid $100 for a nib model on ebay so I'm not sure where you're planning on spending $140 if you are in the US.

Third, a blaneblade, in my opinion, is one of the few lords of war you can bring in without everyone hating you. It's cool looking and there are ways to deal with it. If you want it then I recommend if you do like playing ig/am. You v an put your 1500pt army straight to 2000.

ya.

I set aside money every month to spend every month on the hobby, $100. However, I got lucky and won a decent amount of money in the lottery, so I have extra.

I would agree with that, however, I really don't want to be seen as TFG, even if I am not TFG.

I picked up a Knight Crusader knowing I'm unlikely to ever use the thing. It was a fun thing to build and paint, and if I ever do get in matches with Super Heavies, I have the option available. A Baneblade is even more modest than the Crusader in terms of durability, firepower and tactical options. It's a scary thing featured in the books as amazingly epic, but it falls to traditional anti tank very well.

If people tried playing against it with their good lists, they might find enjoyment out of the game. As long as they have some decent anti tank. Just one Baneblade is a good addition. I'd say get it.

Here's what you do:

1. Get the Baneblade / Hellhammer
2. Build + paint the Baneblade / Hellhammer
3. Inform your opponent about it
4. Have them tailor their list against you in a 1,000 point game
5. Fail spectacularly (not hard, even if you try to win)
6. Never receive complaints about using Baneblades / Hellhammers

Mate, I am in the very slow process of putting a Renegades and Heretics army together and here is my view.

Having read the book of awesome which is IA13 did I start by getting conversion sets from FW? Hope, but I do have a few now.

Did I buy my HQ? Hope, but got it now.

Did I buy some Russes etc? Hope, still don't have any.

I bought a Baneblade! Have I assembled it? Hope, but just looking at the box makes me cackle maniacally.

(Bit of a damning insight into me as a person there I think)

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I disagree with the sentiment that a baneblade is easy to deal with, at least not for everyone.

Drop pods will be good, mass Gauss will tear a hole in it and you better avert your eyes should my skitarii or a Necron CCB get their hands on that hull. At the same time, my Nids and CSM will be hard-pressed to deal with it.

I would say it is a SH that's worth it's points, which is a rare thing among non-FW superheavies I've faced up to this point.

You don't have to be happy when you lose, just don't make winning the condition of your happiness.

If you won't bring it often and your community isn't big on superheavies, I think it'd be a better investment to buy something else for your army you can use more often. That being said, I like my Shadowsword and I got to use it a couple weeks ago.

You should go for it, they are amazing kits and look utterly awesome on the battlefield. I use my Shadowsword/Stormsword as a DISTRACTION CARNIFEX usually - the thing is a massive powerhouse of rape and death and can survibe a surprising amount of firepower - in my last game that I used it a Chapter Master's Orbital Bombardment, 11 Lascannon shots and a 9 man Paladin squad whom charged it with Deamon hammers and their accompanying Grey Knight Commander whom also had a Deamon hammer.

They scare the crap out of the opponent, murder boat everything in their path and just shrug off hits like no tomorrow. Get one.

If you cannot afford one then purchase some plasticard and use http://www.toycutter.com/2008/01/wahammer-40k-complete-template-for.html ] these templates .

Thanks for the input. I agree it is not overpowered, and could be used in a regular game without being cheesy.

However, I am visiting my FLGS tomorrow, and will get their opinions on it, if it wasn't $140 USD I would just go for it, however, that is also the price of almost 3 leman russes, and a lot of money for my current budget.

thanks for the input, and happy wargaming,

I got one because I had a $75 off coupon from a local gamestore.

However, I've used it exactly 3 times. I had to stop because it turned into a "bring a superheavy to counter a superheavy" thing. My opponent started bringing Imperial Knights, so I brought the Baneblade and a Knight.

It's a centerpiece that's used very rarely in my games. I would have much rather spent the money on more Chimeras or Russes.

Its worth it if you can actually get to play with it.

Some areas have issues with Supers

But overall its a centerpiece you will probably want eventually.

They look amazing and you can always scratch build it like I am planning too.

As for the battlefield effect well, it depends. Some opponents will be dicks and wail and whine about it or just spam the D (ELDAR!!!!) or Rapetide it to death (TAU!!!!) or Gauss the feth out of it (NECRONS!!!!) but if you equip it with camo gear and stick it in cover... Well, then you can start laughing.

They can take any upgrade in the Imperial Guard codex. The Camo net is an upgrade.

I used to go by IA1:2E, then my GW ruled that the most recent publication had to be used >.>

Needless to say I was more than a little miffed at the nerfing and price hiking of an already slightly-overcosted unit.

They.... Hiked the price?! Well feth me sideways, there is no way in hell I am ever using that expansion then....

By their own ruling IA2 is the most recent publication of the Imperial Armour Book 2 series, therefore it is a legal choice. And I will continue to use my only mildly over priced camo netted Shadowsword/Stormsword.
