what is the best use for psykers in a blob-ish IG army.

I am thinking about using a primaris psyker or two in a blob with an inquisitor and coteaz with a heavy weapon squad or something.

I will have probably 6+D6 warpcharges (ML1 inquisitor, ML2 coteaz, 2x ML1 primaris psykers, and an astropath).

What tables should I take off of, and what should I be buffing, de buffing, ect.

I think overall divination, because IMO it is one of the best tables in the game, and because all of my psykers will perils on doubles I don't want to take off daemonology.

The astropath is there for the hope of invisibility and an extra wound/warpcharge in my command squad.

I don't know much about the tactics of magic in 40K as dark eldar don't have psykers, and as SM I never too them due to lack of divination.

thanks for the help, happy wargaming,

Depends on what you want your blob to do.

I like mellee blobs with xeno inquisitor (nades, ml1 - divination or hammerhand) and a lvl2 primaris psycher or two with telekinesis to try to get levitation and 5++. Yep, this 5++ is worse than 4++ from divination, but levitation is a VERY powerful thing for an offensive blob.

ahh yes. I forgot about the fact that primaris psykers can be upgraded for ML2.

I am considering a melee blob, as guard have lots of anti-infantry shooting, and little melee, and the small amount they have either suck (rough riders) or lack bodies (bullgryns or ogryns).

I've tried out biomancy, telekinesis, and divination. I personally like biomancy the most.

Telekinesis, I've gotten struck with crush a few too many times, and assail is meh. Shockwave is crazy good though. Psychic malestrom is goofy, WC3 is a pain in the butt.

Divination, half of the powers are completely useless: scrier's gaze, misfortune, precognition. And WC2 prescience isn't worth it on lasguns, and after several games of trying to cast it on my tanks, the payoff is never worth the 75 points, I'd rather just take another unit or a couple sentinels and boost my total firepower.

Biomancy, all the powers are useful in one way or another. Smite is good against any infantry unit, life leech is great against MCs and light vehicles, endurance is perfect on blobs, enfeeble is good against every non-vehicle model in the game ("oh look at that your Space Marines are now T3"), warp speed and iron arm suddenly make your psyker scary in CC with either 3A at S6 Ap3 or 6A at S3 Ap3 at I6. Suddenly he can chop apart a SM captain or an Ork. Hemorrhage is the only not-so-good power, definitely not worth WC2, since even against guardsmen you're only going to kill a guy 75% of the time and two guys 35% of the time. The idea of a hemorrhage chain of death is unrealistic.

Misfortune is useless?

Have you ever had your conscripts charge something that has misfortune up? Get the songs going from your priests and watch your foes get shredded to bits with like 20+ rending wounds.

Ok, misfortune is not useless, it has limited use. I generally find rending to be underwhelming most of the time, whereas something like enfeeble is useful against all armies. I've had my psykers roll up useless powers too often, the reliability of biomancy (and telepathy with astropaths) is worth much more to me than the sometimes-things-work-out nature of the divination/telekinesis tables. That's generally my beef with the whole psychic system, for an awful lot of points you get a model that has random powers that you can only fire/cast sporadically, can be dispelled by the enemy, and then are only useful sometimes. I find IG orders to be cheaper, more reliable, and more effective than the divination powers. Sure you could spend 75 points on a psyker to misfortune a unit of marines, or you could FRF and just fire twice as many shots at them with a 35 point platoon command squad.
