Hey guys I am using a Badger Renegade Krome Brush and I am having a hard to painting at the smallest setting with both needles it comes with. The paint dries on the tip and then paint starting accumulate. Then the airbrush doesnt shoot paint out anymore, so i have to clean the tip off. I have to do this frequently and it gets really annoying. I am using the Badger paint line just a FYI.

Anyone know anything you can do to prevent this. I already use needle juice if that is going to be someones answer.

Mixing the paints with airbrush thinner helps reduce this problem, I use Vallejo Model Air paints with a very small needle (0.2 I think) and I often have this problem if I do not mix in the thinner. You need a careful balancing act between too little thinner (clogs nozzle) and too much (comes out runny and indistinct when it hits the model). This is particularly a problem the older your paints are.

Tell us more about your set up.

Do you use the paint with any solution? What PSI do you run the brush at? Are you letting it sit between sprays on to be fair model,or do you flush the paint out?

I thougth Badger Minitaire is already thinned. Honestly i dont want to take it thinner then it is.. the stuff is thin to beging with.

I usually run at 30 psi sometimes 20-25 if its something small and i want to leave some shade in the area.

No i dont let it sit between spray i use badgers air brush liquid cleaner.

I literally may stop spraying for 3 seconds and come back to it and clogs.. so i wiggle the trigger back and for and spray a towel and its fine... i have to do this alot.. and then evetually to much paint accumulates and the spray is right. So i take a very soft bristle tooth brush and gently wipe the dreid paint off..

I do use a light obivously... its not super close but i wonder if the head omitting off the light is drying the paint. i used to have fast paint drying problems back when i used to use a dry palette .

Let me think.

Needle Juice (lub) helps tip drying
Add flow improver (a drop of dish washing detergent in water then a drop of that) should help (though do it ona test thing and no directly in your bottle.)

or try some slow dry.

You dont just squeeze in dish hope into the cup.

Mix it off to the side with a lot of water. then thin with that. (though i think airbrush thinner already does that)

It sounds like you are doing everything right. maybe you need to clean out your tip really hard and try to start fresh.

I hear one of scale modeler tricks is to use a panty hose to filter out your paint before brushing to remove any lumps.

What ingredient is in air brush thinner for latex and water based paints? i usually just thin with str8 water. (like i said though i usually dont thin the badger paint, because i like the consistency).

Gotcha so you actually mix the water/soap mixture with the paint... hmm... this doesnt effect the paint negatively at all?

All its doing is breaking the surface tension.

So long as its not in there thick it should be fine.

Try like 1/50 water ratio ish.
