I'm looking to get an airbrush on the cheap. I'm not one to do an amazing job with painting, more of a base/outline/highlight type of job. Nail art airbrushes have come up a few times when looking through other forums, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with one?

This is what I'm looking at getting. It'll add an extra touch to my vehicles and just after some thoughts?

A cheap airbrush will do a good job priming and basecoating.

I would not look at it as a tool to do anything more than that. The problem with trying to use it to do stuff after is that it's really easy to totally mess up your models with an airbrush that sputters or spits, or, really, that does anything that you weren't planning on.

It's a hard enough skill to master with good equipment; I certainly wouldn't want to achieve it with one of those compressors, and an iffy airbrush.

What you'll run into with cheap airbrushes (I own 2) are that the space where the cup connects to the airbrush is quite small, restricting the paint that flows through. Also, the atomization is not necessarily consistent, nor as pleasing. None of which matters when you're priming/basecoating.

I really want to slam this kit but honestly I was a bit curious on this compressor as a basecoating travelkit... ofcourse I would use a proper airbrush with it. (The run of battery thing is really interesting )

I'm not quite sure I follow you, the region where the cup connects to the body of the brush isn't typically what restricts paint flow? And on my cheapo brush that area is actually larger than on my more expensive brush.

I think it's just a gamble with cheaper airbrushes. My cheaper airbrush had quite good atomisation up until a couple of the seals got damaged and now the air cap doesn't sit quite as well as it used to and I haven't found a replacement for it.

Since you're in Australia, you could look at Artlogic, they make reasonably cheap airbrushes that I've been pretty happy with (for the price). I think supercheap auto also sell a cheap airbrush but I've never tried it. The harder thing I've found is getting a half decent cheap compressor in Australia.

The compressor in that kit doesn't really look powerful enough to do much though, it;s a 12V 1.6A motor, that's only 19 watts or 0.025HP My compressor is 125 watts and frankly I wouldn't want much less.

so heres my opinion: i was in the same shoes as you. i just wanted a cotton picking air brush and i was gonna make it work! and i didnt wanna spend a ton of money! so i bought a 20$ AB on amazon. it was the master brand by TCP global. some chines knock off of an iwata.
to make a long story short, i was so frusterated and i just some how inherently knew there had to be a better way to AB.
so a week later i bought a 70$ badger airbrush patriot 105 arrow.
havent used my knock off iwata since. this is when i learned the lesson " you get what you pay for."
dont be like me and waste 2 weeks and 30$... just get a decent brush and you will be satisified.
