I'm trying to decide between carcharodons and kdk as my second army...thoughts? Advice?

Space Sharks are that forge world assault space marines doctrine? If you're looking for an assault army, KDK are much better than SM. The units are faster, hit harder in CC, and have summoning. KDK are designed to be an assault army, SM are not. If you're looking for a more balanced assault/ shooting army, than space marines would be better, KDK really don't have shooting.

Space marines have some decent assault units but as an army, KDK are better for a CC themed army.

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

I think the Space Sharks are actually the better choice in terms of being more competitive.

That'r true, Space marines/ sharks are probably the better army but daemonkin are still good and a better pure assault army

It really depends on which fluff you prefer, i'm a Carcharodons player so i'm biased but all the units that benefit from the chapter tactics are not really the most competitive though still very good and fun

Carcharodons really don't do particularly good bikers and obviously have no MC but the tacticals, scouts, vanguard and dreads are sweet

Plus Maori style tattoos are badass

Well personally I like the fluff of both armies quite a bit. Though the Carcharodons are probably stronger due to access to SM armory and weapons.

And the Carcharodons can take psykers which is a plus, since my first army is necrons. But my love for assault and the chaos aesthetic keeps pulling at me. However, if I were to go kdk it would require a lot of forgeworld models...which means a lot $$$$, where as the Carcharodons only need the one model for sure.

I was thinking of doing a drop pod null deploy army with the Carcharodons, seemed and effective and fluffy way to get them where they want to be.

If you think about it a Space Shark tactical Marine is actually better than a Grey Hunter and that's saying a lot.

Well, kinda. They get CCW's for cheaper and can get Doctrines. They don't get two Special Weapons though, and the only practical Heavy is the Grav Cannon, which won't allow charges. Still, once FW updates stuff, they'll be golden.

Also Sky Hammer. The Assault Marines can get a rage which is cool.

He's better for his cost individually, but i'd do unspeakable things to get a second special weapon instead of a combi weapon in the squads, though saying that i can have the combi and the speical in a 5 man suad without having to pay for a sergeant upgrade like SW's do

Yeah, a second Special does a lot for me. Maybe FW will let us get one because we're special haha

I'm personally hoping we'll get our chapter tactics buffed like codex ones to, but i reckon rage without having to kill something would be better

Atm Im kinda leaning towards kdk. I love a good assault, and Khorne is my fav chaos god.

Only problem is that it would be two armies with no psykers, which is kind of a bummer.

However, Carcharodons would make me feel almost dirty for using the same codex as Ultramarines...

Space Sharks cannot take Librarians ?

KDK can use another detachment to get psykers. I'm sure Sharks could too.

Carcharodons/Space Sharks can take Librarians, they seem to be oddly codex adherent on that

Don't worry the rest of the Carcharodons fluff doesn't give a crap about the codex, they have personal tribal markings not silly colours and have scouts and terminators mixed in with the normal companies with no reserve company

If you can't decide there's always running them as a renegade hybrid, you can switch between the two forces with just a couple of unit tweaks etc and you'll be able to take librarians as Carcharodons (they are very good with them actually, big fan of Biomancy)

Hehe no I knew that Carcharodons could take psykers, but my first army is necrons, and they have no psykers....so if I went with kdk both armies would have no psykers unless I allied.
