At any one time, regardless of point limits/FOC, how would you rather field your army?

More models - Larger squads (e.g 10 man rather than 5 man Space Marine squads)

More upgrades - Would you rather spend your points upgrading your squads?

More squads - Would prefer to field more, cheaper, squads?

As a general rule I tend to field more models/more upgrades, with less squads, it suits my play style a lot more. But depending on my opponent, I would maybe consider having less models but more squads, but I do tend to stick with the amount of upgrades (I almost solely play WYSIWYG).

Love to hear others preferences, and the armies you field (Go into as much detail as you want!)

I play Dark Angels by the way.

I prefer to play more models and upgrades, but then again I just really enjoy kitting my squads out, as I prefer to have less troops, but have each of my squads be fairly effective on it's own.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

For the most part I’m a firm believer in boys before toys. So more boots on the ground, rather then fewer tricked out ones.

As a loyal Ultramarine, I’m also a firm believer in full 10 man tactical squads, with both the special and the heavy. It’s what the Codex calls for. Most other squads I keep at 5 men. The only time I generally field anything not in a 5/10 man squad is 9 sternguard in a pod, leaving a seat free for a HQ.

More squads. MSU has never really been my thing, but I've found that I need the ability to spread out more in the current meta.

I usually prefer more models/more squads. I am trying to experiment with MSU though. Definitely worth sacrificing most upgrades for more troops, though.

I like modelling as much if not more than playing games, so I lean towards the more upgrades side of thing, so I can model the cool upgrades.

Also, I started the game with Necrons, which have very limited upgrades, so with my other 2 armies, especially Marines, I feel like a kid in the candy store with all the upgrade options.

A good point on different armies. While I tend to be very minimalist with my marines, when it comes to Eldar, I want (and frequently take) all the toys.

Naked marine sergeants with just a bp/chainsword to their name
Eldar aspect warrior exarchs with fun toys for every squad.

Life is just not fair.

I tend to field min squads with some equipment because I love painting and modeling but rarely have patience for many copies of the same thing.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

It really depends on how I feel. I'm an IH successor player.

Sometimes I'm feeling more like Terminators > Cents, other times it's Cents > Terminators.
In the case of Cents, more upgrades.
Terminators get upgrades then body count (max of 7 or 8 for my LRC, this depends on my HQ choice, Libby takes TDA and joins these guys a lot)

Tacticals I don't tend to run, although I'm considering running more. But what I do run is 2 x 10 man units with GG & MM in each. Sometimes run them as 4 x 5 man squads with 2 GG, 2 MM

Sternguard always get priority on points for men. Always try to run these as 10 man + Drop Pod. Combat squad on exit, no upgrades unless I have a severe amount of points left over.

HQ choices: Always kitted heavily. Always.

Generally it's upgrades and models first, more units second.

If I sound like I'm being a condescending butthole, I'm not. Read my reply as neutrally as possible, please and thank you.

More squads with more boots whenever possible. Low on toys, even for the HQ.

I prefer to add redundancy into my lists, so deffos more models over the others, spend the points on toys a really need then plug the gaps with bodies

I'm always in favor of more bodies on the table instead of upgrades, either through lots of small squads or a few big squads.

HQs are kitted out to benefit what they do best, and nothing more.

The only upgrades I take are the ones that I feel are most beneficial/necessary to the squad.

It all depends, with Orks I run large squads w/ bosspole and rokkits. With my Khorne I'm running multiple small squads to get the BT points.

MSU for me, although if I am aiming to get the benefit of something for a particular unit, then I try and max it.

Such as 15 Death Company with Astorath, 10 Kabalites in a Splinter Rack Raider, etc

I used to run pretty elite (Crowe and Purifiers with a unit of Paladins, everybody geared up with toys) but have been finding a lot more success using minimally equipped squads (strike squads, 1 psycannon. Interceptor squads with 1 incinerator and 1 hammer, etc).

In fact, the few games I've come close to winning are the last few where I've gone MSU, so maybe there's something to that.

I feel most complete when running large, well upgraded squads. That being said, if I go MSU, I also get a perverse joy from having so many units that my opponent is just overwhelmed.
