There has been no report of where the marijuana was found, but the cops say they found .02 ounces of marijuana, so we're obviously dealing with another El Chapo here. Good work cops...sleep easy knowing that you have won an incredible victory in the War on Drugs, even if you had to rape a woman in public to do so.

I do have an idea.

It's a fact that the majority of policemen in Texas are white. It's a fact that there is a lot of police on black racism.

It's not an unreasonable assumption that racism was a likely factor in this case.

Why is cannabis so important to Americans anyway? You treat it like heroin. In the UK possession is illegal but most police wouldn't bother beyond confiscation. You wouldn't be publicly strip searched or worse for it. Cannabis use can cause paranoia, but it seems to me the fear and anger over cannabis use is causing the police to be pretty paranoid.

Yeah, this is something which has been bothering me. Given that it's actually legal in some of the states, why does it need to be treated like a much more dangerous substance?

No idea. It's totally legal even for recreational use in some states, and yet most of the country is 10x butthurt about it, all the time.

Alcohol is substantially worse for you in every way, as Relapse has noted previously, and yet, totally legal.

As an American I have no explanation. It's inexplicable.

My understanding is the first female cop on the scene was black. The victim's lawyer seems to think race was not the issue.

Corley’s attorney Samuel Cammack III said what happened to his client was unconstitutional and told CNN the district attorney’s office dropped charges against Corely.

“It’s more about police conduct, I think, than it is race,” he told CNN.

But I'm sure if enough folks make it a race issue it can become one.

Working in a state prison for the last 11 years you would not believe what he find in the prisoners butts. From cigarettes to drugs crammed up their prison purses. Thankfully it's a all male facility so I don't have to deal with the females.

The police should have followed protocol, and informed her that bringing narcotics into a jail is a felony. She would either give up the stuff OR kept denying and get a brand new felony record over a misdemeanor offence. Its a win-win for them.

This is a a case of bad judgment by everyone involved. Most of the time when police KNOW you have something (drugs, weapons etc) they rarely just leave. Best option is to be honest and upfront and take your lickings like an adult.

Or stuff things down your pants. Whatever works.

She had nothing on her, so everything you just said makes zero sense in the context of what is being discussed. She was legally raped by a police force that likely has been doing it for a while now. The police are the only ones who made the "bad judgement" the woman didn't do anything wrong other than not consent to being raped.

You have literally just said as adults we should take our rape and be okay with it.

Statistics are not predictive, they indicate probabilities. It was completely reasonable to suppose that race was likely to be an issue, until specific information that would contradict that emerged.

Of course, without a racial motive, it makes the behaviour of the first policeman seem even more bizarre and likely to be an enforcement of Authoritaaah.

Or more likely pure incompetence.

My experiences with the stuff have been considerably less fluffy, even when not dealing with resin, so the crumbled remains I usually view as a half gram MIGHT fill that bottle cap.

It's a long story, and it's reasons are (predictably) political and based on racism. Short version is nobody cared about marijuana at first because it was the drug used by the "poor blacks and hispanics". But politicians love their bogeymen, so when they got the chance to use marijuana use among blacks and hispanics as the reason for crimes and violence (against whites, "coincidentally"), that's when the ball got rolling. Today, it's no longer about racism, but it is about politics (maintaining the appearance of being tough on crime or protecting our youth from "bad stuff").

You could at least use the more recent story where he publicly clarified less than a week later that he definitely (not probably) believes it is not as dangerous as heroin. This is a huge difference compared to the previous administrator. Besides, his hands are still tied by federal laws.

Exactly. Half a gram is essentially one small nugget, depending on how dense it is.

Or at least that is what I've been told...
