Hi all,
What are some good rank-and-file miniature games? Like Pre-Sigmar WHFB type games with blocks of troops as opposed to 40K with loose squads. I've heard about Hail Caesar and Kings of War, but I don't know much about them.

Kings of War is awesome. It's fast, it's fun and most of the rules are free (for the full army lists you do need a rulebook, which costs all of £10!), and if you already have a WFB army and some movement trays you've got all you need to play!

You can find loads of info up in the Mantic Games subforum, or go straight to the source and check out the rules for yourself:

It looks pretty cool, and I might investigate further, but how about some either medieval or low fantasy games?

Give Mayhem a look. It can be played with any miniatures in your collection and at any scale. There are free BattleScribe army builder files available in the form of the Armies of Mayhem supplement. The game can be used for medieval or low fantasy as the game is completely customizable.

Below are some battle reports, in no particular order, that you can check out to get an idea of how the game plays:

Drums in the Deep - various Mayhem posts
Ten and Fifteen Mil - the battle begins

Ten and Fifteen Mil - Mayhem tags and other battles
Tactical Command - several reports in this thread

Kings of War again has a generic historical list (Kingdoms of Men), and has a dedicated Historical supplement in the pipeline.

That's actually pretty cool that they're expanding KoW so much, but I guess they're the biggest on the market right now.

Give us 2-3 more months to complete the phase-2 playtesting around the world and we will sure give you a fantasy rank n' file game to look forward to ;-)
Supported by our cofunded KS-2, it should become easily even more known.
Whether it's good or not, you'll decide, till now we are having some great reactions however!
