I'll Be Back

Hello all,

Long time lurker first time poster. I am new to the game again. Played back in fifth with Tyranids. But that's not what your here to read.

To the list!!!
______________________________________________________________________________________________

5x immortals + nightscythe: 215

3x Tomb blades + nebluscopes : 60
2x 10x Warriors in GA: 470

Judicator Battalion: 675

2x Triarch Praetorians one with void blades and particle casters and the other with rods nightscythes 270
Triarch stalker + TL heavy gauss cannon: 135
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

I know its unconventional. I am expecting quite alot of "drop this for destroyers". I see the appeal, and I can see why people run them they really just don't mesh well with me. Don't really know why.

The person who runs my local torny (necron player as well, with considerably more experience than myself) is under the impression that the two NS that the Praetorians are in benefit from the target designated, as well as the NS itself. While I am totally cool with this, I wanted a second opinion cause if I have to call it at the table I want the confidence to back it up.

Please pick apart my list and feel free to offer constructive criticism. Im not in this to be a super competitive jerk wad but I always want to learn how to be a better player.

Just in case this is not clear the objective is to hide the Stalker behind the two GA and slowly advance. While the TB are doing what they are good at and zipping around grabbing OBJ and dying (just been my experience). Turn two things get really fun as the flyers swoop in and start grabbing OBJ's and killing things with Tesla.

As for heavy armor I have not had a huge issue. Gauss and str 7 tends to take care of alot.

the models I have Atm

1x Obelisk
1x C'tan
2x AB 1 is magnetized to be a CCB
24x Warriors
5x Immortals, modeled like deathmarks
10x Triarch Praetorians
1x Triarch Stalker
6x Canoptek Wraiths
1x Spyder
Bunches of Scarabs
3x Overlords 2 from the CCB bits, can be used for proxies
2x GA 1 magnetized to be a DA if necessary

Here's the funny part,
I have no
Nightscythes
or
Lychguard

I already plan to get some very soon, so this is purely theory crafting. Sorry if that's bad, its easier to map purchases this way and not splurge like I did at first, so much compulsive purchases with this army already.

The thing about the drop X and take destroyers comments are that those people are asking for tournament lists and whats ultra competitive. List for funz are less likely to get those.

With that said most decurions go bare bones reclamation legion, canoptek harvest, and destroyer cult. It's very effective, but it gets boring playing the same list, and it adds to the general groaning about Necrons on these boards and FLGS around the world ("decurion OP", "WTF wraiths", "I shoot necrons and nothing happens").

Still I'm not sure how much fun 10 wounds with no invul saves for 675 points will be. As for fun suggestions, Truth be told I'm actually a fan of C'Tan. Sure they are random, but they have a distinct possibility of being totally awesome, cause there is nothing like a surprise battle cannon to ruin someones day. In the same vein Tesla is a blast, it's either ok or amazing, with no real middle ground. You could field an annihilation nexus, it's a cold day in hell when they can make their points back, but they will still probably do better than the triarchs.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

The Judicator formation is a bit questionable.
I'd take the Canoptek formation and add three more Tomb Blades.
With particle casters they are great vs. infantry.

wenstenfux - How is the Judicator questionable?

The Judicator Battalion is an awesome formation. I run one with two units of 5 Rod Praetorians and it has always done good things for me. I've never used the Casters and Void Blades, so I can't say how good it is.

As for the Night Scythes gaining the rule for the formation, that's a grey area. I don't really know what the ruling is on that for groups like ITC. I can see both sides, and I will be asking my group about that pretty soon. You'll have to figure out how your gaming group plans to handle that before you build it into a list and be ready to accept it not being allowed for any tournament you play.

The night scythes are lame in this list. Because the praetorians are jump. They dont need the night scythe to get where they want to get and are excellent in combat. Which they now wont get to do till turn three at the earliest, because they have to come in from reserve. Youd be better giving the overlord the veil of darkness so he can go with the lychguard and hop across the table to where the action is turn one, for a probable turn two assault, or at least shunt you oppponent about a bit. With the points you save from dropping the night scythes you can take a royal court and make your lychguard into an unkillable deathstar with Orikan.

I like the judicator. Praetorians are baller. But start em on or deep strike em, IMHO

You don't 'have to' start them in the Nightscythe. Also, RAW, you can't start them in the Nightscythe because Nightscythes don't have permission to carry jump infantry.

You can, however, use the Battalion's command benefit to buff the Nightscythes in the shooting phase.

Ha! You just about described my Nova list for this year I also added the deathbringer flight though and traded in the overlord for a beefy command barge...it'll probably suck because everyone else will have the gladius crap and I'll be sitting there with no objective secure anything but Nova's a hoot...
