It's only open until 6pm on the weekends. Really? Last year I'm sure we were in there until 9pm or so, though it was deserted.

Foods only available until 3. Do they not want visitors?

It was probably after the re--launch.
And, nope. Visitors don't spend enough, and cause mess.

I have no idea how true this is so please take with a pinch of salt, but I have been informed that this is the result of licencing.

Games Workshop didn't realise that by shutting all the other enterance to the building (you used to be able to get in via Bugmans) that they would not be able to class Bugmans as a separate business, as you now need to enter Warhammer world via the store the entire venue is now classed as a store from a licencing point of view, and suffers more restrictive opening hour requirements.

I have no idea how true this fact is, but it is true that you can now only enter the building via the store and I can certainly believe that both GW wouldn't realise this would effect their licence and that the UK authorities would place this kind of restrictive licence on a business.

There seems to be lots of stories about GW not realising something legal until after the fact, like that thing about going to the US on the wrong visas.

That would make sense, but Bugmans shuts at the same time.

I do get the impression there are some hours restrictions in England that don't apply to Scotland, so I guess it could be that.

I'd just assumed they'd not realised that the opening hours would need to match the store, and gone ahead and closed the store at the normal time anyway rather than keeping staff on longer.

That sounds about right, there will also be issues with fire safety and how many people they can now host at events as a knock-on effect of only having the one entrance now. It's a bit of a shame because rocking up and having an all day sess in Bugman's was one of our little traditions.

Really? It's well worth the 7.50 in my opinion

Yeah, no idea. It's very recent, as I was caught off guard suddenly last month at 5.55pm when we hadn't packed up and a staff member had to explain.

Certainly puts pressure on a leisurely afternoon game seeing as the afternoon tables can only be booked 2-6pm.

Weirdly, 8pm Fridays.

That's better than the morning slot (10am-1pm). Which is the only slot we can get for a decent table (LOS blocking terrain), so it's going to have to be a fast game if they don't open until 10.

You can request the entire day with enough notice.

Maybe but I am pretty tight and I loathe paying for what I used to get for free, although I guess it is a bit better now.

It's a bit steep for what used to be free, but I get the impression it's a much bigger exhibition now. Is it worth £7.50? Who knows. I'll give it a try once, anyway, and spend my money in the bar next time round. I'll stick up a review from a cynic when I get back

Yeah it's the enough notice thing that caught me. All that's left on the afternoon I'm visiting is "Empire Hamlet", "Valley Of Skulls" and "Standard table". All of which will likely suck for what I had in mind (a 2 part mission where scouts infiltrate an enemy sector to mark an entry point for some assault marines to land and take out some kind of enemy device before it launches), which requires a lot of dense scenery and restricted movement/LoS.

They have a table called "Valley of Skulls". Why am I not surprised?

It's pretty much as exciting as it sounds:

But that's the point I was making - Bugmans is now not licenced separate from the store as they use the same entry/exit area. As such it is required by law to shut at the same time as the store - again this is just what I have heard, but I have family who run their own businesses and they all say that that sound like the exact kind of thing that a council would do to a business.

Ah yes, I parsed it the other way round (the store needs to match Bugmans time, not that Bugmans needs to match the stores time). But they removed the side entrance at Bugmans? That seems odd if it wasn't affected by the refurb.

If that is the case, they've messed this up Spectacularly. Did Kirbys wife project manage this too?
