Sounds like you are having fun.
My good lady went through much the same pains when learning - it wasn't until we played on the same side against two other players that the lessons really sank in.
Together, we slaughtered them - without exchanging a word, and spending about half as long on the chess clock as the other side. It was beautiful. Dwarfs & Dwarfs vs. Twilight Kin Elves & Orcs. (This was first edition - the Abyss tainted Twilight Kin are going to make a comeback, but nobody knows when.)

The Twilight Kin temp list comes out with the book at launch. They get redone next year (probably, exact time unknown).

And the temporary list is up!
E-mailing the list to Jon & Julie. The orcs and the Twilight Kin shall soon face the wrath of the dwarven Hammer & Anvil!

Heh - I was lucky, most of my group switched over after WHFB8 came out.
Playing the game also does a lot to kill objections. Most of them had played KoW with me before 8 came out, for the, at that time, Kings of War meant another game where they could use the same armies.
And, at first, it was a way of getting in a game when the time was too short for a Warhammer game.
Warhammer 8... killed of the interest in Warhammer, leaving Kings of War as the clear victor.
