In 30k the legion medusa is much better in normal games than the legion basilisk.
Medusa - 36" range S10 AP2 ordinance1, large blast, barrage
Basilisk - 36"-240" range S9 AP3 ordinance1, large blast, barrage
The basilisk could do something when on a huuuuuge board as there aren't even many titan weapons with that kind of range! the 36" minimum range punks it on normal sized boards though.

Barrage just needs to direct fire then it can fire below the minimum range

In 6th edition you can fire at targets withing the minimum range if you fire indirectly

Pretty much all of the profiles for AM weapons are found in the the AM codex and not in the IA book.
Medusas are barrage. They also can't fire directly so can't fire within their minimum distance.

You're going to have to state the page number dude, cause i can't find it in either the BRB or the little RB from dark vengeance.
I checked the 'barrage weapons', 'blast weapons', 'range' and 'line of sight' sections and there is nothing saying you can direct fire - the appendix which is usually really good for obscure entries doesn't have it listed....
And the only exception i've found for hitting models inside your minimum range is the bit in the 'blast weapons' section which says that you can scatter inside of your minimum range .

Thanks for the input, peeps. I'm trying to plan out a DKoK army and those artillery pieces are 'spensive.
I feel like Quads+Medusas would have good synergy for fire support.

That and spelling errors.

If the Medusas are Barrage, it should be pretty good.
Otherwise, you'll be hurting with the immobile rule. Keep in mind you can have the Bastion Breacher shells, gives you much better vehicle busting capacities, better range, but smaller blast and isn't Barrage.

Earthshaker carriages are pretty good, because they fix everything wrong with the Basilisk, and are cheap.
Medusa carriages are also awesome.
Personally, I suggest a battery of earthshaker carriages, and a battery of medusa carriages with bastion breacher rounds. Eartshaker for dudes, medusa for vehicles.
Also, Medusa are not barrage.

The fact that they can't move shouldn't be too bad. I wouldn't plan on going hunting with them, they're more to deny table access and pound anything that gets too close to the main line.

GW needs to fix the Basilisk minimum range, or just make it off-board artillery already. As is I feel riciulous using an artillery gun at this scale that is so blasted big. The only wargames where it feels right to have artillery is 15mm like Flames of War and Dropzone Commander, and even then it can ridiculous with the artillery parks. So yes, the Medusa.

I'm curious as to where you guys are getting Barrage on Medusa's from.
Looking in the Siege of Vraks book (the big all encompassing one) they're just 36 range ordnance, no barrage to be found.

I'm using horus heresy stuff and it's profile lists it as barrage in book 1 - things are just better in M30; My warhound gains immunity from haywire, 'move through cover' and 'nightvision' in M30!

You don't get to use 30k units in 40k armies.
Even if they have the same name, effectively the 30k lists are completely separate from 40k lists, and officially not the same game.

Well, it's lucky i play 30k then isn't it?
All flippancy aside, i started that post with "I'm using horus heresy stuff..." and i kinda hoped you would read that bit and understand that i play 30k, not the useless mess of illogical verbage which is 40k and it's codecies.

You would be amazed how much thats not a trivial assumption, I've encountered multiple cases of people mixing 30k and 40k rules into a single army...(naturally in the way that benefits them the most)
30k could be cool....
If not for the complete and utter lack of diversity. (marine. more marines. admech and IG....missed anything?)
I mean, AFAIK even chaos deamon don't make a decent apperance there. not to mention complete and utter lack of xeno rules (yes, its the horus heresy. but xenos EXISTED, even if tau/necron/nids weren't around)

You'll be surprised by how much has been added!
as well as the 18 different legions there are mechanicum, dark mechanicum, questoris Knight Households, solar auxillia (fancy IG), warbands and renegades, and even codex chaos daemons!
It's a wonderful time for the 30k player right now!
