I've read a couple novels from 40K and there are one or two characters I liked reading about, such as Sergeant Grimm from "Rynn's World" and that Storm Trooper in "Helsreach" (whose name I cannot recall). I was just wondering what character(s) that you guys liked while reading the novels.

I have only read rynns world but in it I liked Snagrod. I thought it was pretty neat that he broke the chapter masters armor with a kick. I really wanted him to win that battle but oh well.

My Armies:
Orks about 15000-16000 mostly unpainted but slowly being worked on
Militarum Tempestus about 2000 points just built
Inquisition about 2000 points unpainted
Officio Assassinorum 570 unpainted

Sergeant "Smoker" from Iron Guard was probably one of my favourite characters from a 40k book, but like many others Cain comes to mind.

Motley from the Dark Eldar Path books and Masque the Vyle, he was such fun. Especially when paired off with Mor in Path of the Incubus.

Patience Kys. She just goes from strength to strength... the bit where she took down an intelligent roid-monster with a couple of fish scales was particularly epic.

Larkin in Gaunt's Ghosts is a good character.

I also kinda liked Cuu, in the same way one might like Joffrey from GoT. Loved to hate that little rat.

I second this, she is a great characther. As for myself I quite enjoy Cain. Grimnaldus from the Helsreach book, the main characther from the book Blood Of Asaheim and the female Arbites from the Enforcer omnibus

Both Patience and Harlon Nayl made the ravenor trilogy thoroughly enjoyable, Although i much prefer the portrayed personality of Eisenhorn.

I would have to say that Zefer Tyranus is much closer to the top of the list than the aforementioned, The necromunda novels are probably my favorite 40k works. (models exluded, naturally.)

Oh, well, Cally Samstag definitely deserves an honourable mention - a regular woman with barely any PDF training who ends up leading an entire company through the badlands during a chaos assault adn keeping them alive.

Loken from the first three Horus Heresy books is probably one of my favorite 40k characters. It gives a great look into the humanity of someone as inhuman as a Space Marine. His story is representative and symbolic of the whole of the Heresy, and for that I think he's probably one of the most conceptually awesome characters in 40k.

The guy in storm of iron, the lone guardsman, he was a pretty cool character showing the guard can adapt and fight impossible odds.

I liked Zael Epherneti. I really loved what wound up happening to him.

Big fan of Septimus, from the Night Lord novels, as well.

Harlon Nayl is also a perennial favorite of mine.

I really liked the remembrancers and orators in the first few Horus Heresy novels.
Especially how the general reaction from everyone else was "Get these smelly poets off my ship. Oh fine, give them somewhere to sit. But do it quietly."

Kyril Sindermann is definitely my fave, though.

Yes. He actually sold me on Space Marines. Before reading those, I saw them as fairly faceless.

I prefer Eisenhorn myself, but one of my partners loves Ravenor because, like her, he's stuck in a wheelchair... and he still gets to be awesome. So there is that. :p

My favourite characters hmm, there have been a few.

The Warsmith in Storm of Iron. A pretty imposing character and a great description of how to wield power and use fear to control your forces. Actually, most of the characters in Storm of Iron were well done, I think Storm of Iron is probably Graham McNeils best book.

Godwyn Fischig from Eisenhorn. A no nonsense hard case who meets an unfortunate and undeserving end.

Ignace Karkasy - a lovable and buffoonish chap who, despite of being an absolute coward, went up against the Astartes when he saw their actions as wrong.

Demetrius from Daemonworld - Ben Counters finest book imo. Demetrius a Slaaneshi dreadnought who's just pure badass.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes
