So, I think it's come time for me to evaluate where I am with this game, and where i'm going...

Both local stores that at least somewhat carried the game have dropped any kind of support for it, including dropping buying new ships, and even going so far as to leave Attack Wing stuff half off...

I like playing, I really do, but with no OPs near me, and the inability to move somewhere where they are held, I cannot help but think I shouldn't continue to spend money on this game, past the casual expansion or two I really want.

Thinking about keeping the main factions I like, Federation, Mirror, Klingons, Romulans, and Dominion, and sell the rest... I honestly can't justify keeping some things knowing i'll never use them.

If I do relocate somewhere where OPs are run, I might consider getting back into competitive buying, but for now, I think i'm going to get the main stuff I want from factions I like rather than trying to be completist...

I still have a good number of things on my "to buy" list though, at least 2 akiras, 2 Ning Taos, Pasteur, Avenger, Terix, Hood, Pagh, AjRmr, Rav Laerst, etc.

Where are you at with this game?

I'm frustrated because there was a group that were going to run it at our local store but they held one OP (not an actual OP more of a campaign) back in March. so I bought a whole heap of stuff, mostly federation, prepping to play but they haven't done anything else since even after four more people wanted to get involved. after several messages to the group I have taken it upon myself to organise and run it but I've found it rather difficult because of the whole "Star wars v Star trek" mentality.

I don't understand why SW vs. ST would play a role here, the two games, though based on the same flight path system, are two separate beasts altogether, SW focuses more on fleet builds, ships, etc. ST relies more on crew/tech interactions, etc.

Because of the fanboy's... Most fans prefer one or the other, usually not both franchises.

I always found that stupid... I love both. The mysticism and fun of Star Wars is always enjoyable, while the philosophical and Diplomatic side of Star Trek is great.

I do prefer the combat of Star Wars over that of Star Trek, especially once we got to see full scale war (the Dominion War) and the fact that its basically just gun lines... Though small scale combat is pretty fun. (and I have a love of starfighter combat, however inaccurate it goes)

As far as the game goes, I am frustrated on a daily basis by the failure of WizKids to stick with how the ships perform in action, and the failure to playtest things from different waves and expansions. I have three stores running OP Events, and I am now trying to start up a fourth, on account of one of them proving to be consistently corrupt (the TO I complained about before has been caught making inaccurate rulings, but only when it benefits his friend, and then makes the correct rulling against one of our group...).

I love the mechanics, and I like the fact that it feels very different from X-Wing. I won't be getting rid of my collection, but I will continue to gripe.

Well these days I am only playing in 1-2 OPs a month. My third venue stoped having OPs, I found a new one but it is an hour away and $8 in tolls. We have a game every now and then at my house but not much at the local shops when there isn't an OP. Once the fall gets going I'm going to talk to one of the shops about organizing some non OP tournaments.

As for buying I am getting at least 1 of everything. I haven't bought to many duplicates lately. I think the Haakona was the last duplicate I bought. I will have to see whats in Quark's Treasure and the Phoenix before I make up my mind. Sticking with one each of the current wave.

When it comes to the long term, I love this game. I see myself and friends playing for years after WK stops supporting. Larege games of 300+ and home made missions have always been my favorite parts of this game so I don't ned OPs to keep going. OPs are fun and I would miss them but not the most important thing to me. I still play older versions of WH and 40k so this is no different as far as I'm concerned. I still have Kislevs, Slayer army, Adeptus Arbites and I like STAW way more than any GW product.

It fascinates me that all the gaming groups sort of sit there and wait for the OPs instead of actually organizing their own campaigns and playing casually. It's bizarre that, if WKs aren't releasing an OP at that precise time, people just don't play the game.

Oh, I have been playing constantly almost.

And we have attempted on numerous occasions to take pics so I can post a few battle reports... and get caught up and forget.

Last game was a 4-way 60 point single ship game. We had the NX01 Enterprise (me) rolling 4 Attack dice and 9 defense dice, A Reman Warbird, the Prometheus, and the Thunderchild.

It ended in a stalemate because the thunderchild couldn't hit me and I couldn't hit it. (it was rolling between 4 and 6 defense dice).

Trust me if I wasn't so busy with work and kids going back to school I would be playing a lot more. However I have noticed that it is difficult to get folks out to a non OP even.

To OP: I feel ya we just lost another guy puting us down to 5 people, one of which decided to all power hungry and restart the BS I thought we left behind. The store is getting the OP packs but the TO refuses to schedule so either I buy them, or they will stop getting them. Problem is I'm not much of a ebayer and have no use of some of those ships. I'd take over as TO but the store is frowning on that because they dont want to hurt a loyal customers feelings.

I am certain you can find some one to pick them up on here Rune...

I hate eBaying stuff... I always feel so dirty afterwards. And buying from the local shop that has this stuff stockpiled isn't much better.

I am very fortunate because here in my area we have not one, but 4 separate stores that can run the OPs. So if I get PO'd at one, I still have three to go to.

Maybe but the hassle of shipping them is what bothers me

I can understand that. I unfortunately don't know a way around that bit unless you want to sell them to local players?
