5 Zoans and 1 neurothrope are not useless but wasitng assault 6 warp blast on a single unit is not that good... 2 zoans and 1 neuro is better, getting 2 of the if you want so many zoans, but you would have to sacrifice one venom... or just drop 3 zoans ang use those 150 for a dakkafex 120 + 30 (2 TL devs)

2nd the mawlock over zoans...they are so good. If you could squeeze 2 in and lose a the zoans and 1 venomthrope I reckon the list looks good.

Let me tell you how friggin useless one Dakkafex is. The short answer is very. A Tactical squad with a Plasma/Combi Plasma can kill a Dakkafex pretty easily. A squad actually meant to kill things WILL kill it faster. A Dakkafex alone is slow, a big target, short range and it is just crap. I have been using one in my local Escalation league and it is being swapped out for a Mawloc. My Walking Tyrant does a LOT more damage and impacts the game a LOT more than the single Dakkafex. More points, but grabbing Catalyst or one of the other good powers out there changes the game. The Dakkafex has no buffs, is pierced so easily and has only ever survived because it was ignored.
Go with the Mawloc. More durable, better in Assault, the Blast is so much more disruptive to the enemy line than a Carnifex can be and you're not footslogging a unit while the important things are up in the air.
Two or three Dakkafex are impressive though. But only in groups.

Couldn't disagree more, with twinlinking the devourers make up for the monster's average BS, and S6 is useful for both infantry and light tanks, giving it lots of good potential targets. That combined with base S9 and D3 HoW... For 150 points they are a strong choice in my opinion. At the very worst I've had them make themselves a bullet magnet, freeing other parts of my army up to do what it does. Put one in a pod (preferably with something else podding in) and let them sow panic.

Yes, all the stats look good on paper. Now compare it to Grav Bikes, which kills it in a single turn of shooting, Thunderfire Cannons, which cost less and have a pretty decent chance of killing it, Necron Destroyers, which kills it in a single round of shooting, Tau Plasma Guns, Eldar Scatbikes or any of the normal units that are in any game even remotely competitive. All of these things are nearly tailor made to outperform and slaughter the Carnifex. T6 isn't anything when the popular meta leans heavily towards S6 Spam. And look at the context of including it in the list. There isn't room for a pod, so that's out.
I had my Dakkafex singlehandedly blast a Necron flyer out of the sky on his own, but that doesn't make it a good unit. And I am absolutely sure that a Mawloc would have given me more tactical options since all the Carnifex did was steal a kill from my Flyrant. Didn't actually change anything in the game but I lost out on three points because I had nothing Deep Striking when it would have been tactically prudent.

I am a huge fan of Mawloc, but Dakkafexen are good units too. The secret, for me is in using it as part of a team. A Dakkafex, with a screen, and some force multipliers, is a game winner. All alone? Yeah, easy prey... Automatically Appended Next Post: If you want to spend a few more points, a Tyrannofex is very strong at low points, it's almost unkillable

Lots of things to spend 90 points on! You can add two x3 Broods of Tunneling Rippers for some extra Objective Secured. You can add a Spore Field (If you can have two formations) Upgrade your Mucolids to sturdier Infantry (also adds some OS)
You can add Old Adversary to one or both Winged Tyrants. (still have 60 left)
What works "best" is really dependant on your "meta", but going "blind" I would add Two x3 Broods od Rippers. And likely drop one Mucolid for Old Adversary...
The other place to look is adding extra Synapse. You can never have "too much"

Well, adding the reapers would'n need the mucolids for filling the troops line, Freeing 30 more points.
I know that today meta is not giving the MC Regen, but you could give some regen and pray they are not killed in 1 turn.
Spore field is also good, adding lots of other things he sould fire at

What are your thoughts on replacing the 2 units of venomthropes with a malanthrope. Much better and adds synapse.
A single dakka fex isn't great, that's true, but it rarely stands in the open. It is usually close to a shrouded bubble, close to a ruin and obscured but little gants often having a 3+ cover or better. Anything shooting at it isn't shooting at your flyrants or synapse. I like single dakka fex or broods of two. Three seems to be twoo much to move with and often over kills.

If it is an option, it is a good one (Malanthrope) The usual way I run Tyranids is what I call a "Bugstar" a Big Bug (Dakkafex, Tyrannofex) a screen of Hormagaunts, a Veno, and a Synapse. The Hormies have a 5+ save, and are not a priority target, so they often arrive intact, the "inside" of the Bug Star has a 3+ cover. This is very usefull for keeping the Big Bug alive, and most folks target the big scarey monster. If the Synapse is a Warrior Brood, you have a Cannon, and they can join CC and tear things up. If you have a Zoey...hopefully you get a good power, in any case you have a Warp Blast/ Lance.
So a "Bugstar" of Malanthrope, Dakkafex, and Hormies should work just fine. What you give up (Cannon, or Psy-power) you gain in durability, and possably a Prefered Enemy.
I agree that ones, or twos work best for Dakkafexen. The third one seems like a poor use of points.

I like the idea of having a malanthrope but is this okay to play a malanthrope in a GW tournament ?

Best people to ask would be the tournament organisers as always.
If you are allowed a Malanthrope, that would ease the pressure of your Synapse creatures (Zoanthropes) so you could invest in a Tyrannocyte to DS 3 S10 Ap2 Lances and Spirit Leech where you need them.
Other options includ Biovores for Barrage, units of Spore Mines for area denial and Termagants for a screen for your ground units.
