I'm patiently waiting for this game to arrive from Amazon.com and just wondering if anyone else has it and has any tips or advice for a total BB newb.

Bad dice?

Can you customize your league? I'd like to play an all halfling and gobbo league. That would be fun. If not, multiplayer looks like a blast.

Eventually when I get around to it I'll make up a pitch and all that. Probably gonna make a couple goblin teams because that seems like a super easy conversion. Plus they seem pretty hilarious to play! I can just imagine how silly that matchup must be.

That's a long way off though so for now Xbox will have to do. This might be the one game that actually gets me to play video games again.

Allegedly it's perfectly fine and well and fair, which is believable until you notice that the AI has been incredibly lucky with dodges and catches and avoiding harm, and all your double skull rolls re-rolled back to double skulls without fail.

Sure, I've been jammy a few times on PC, but the amount of times where the AI manages to snatch a last-second win because everything for them went miraculously 100% right, or you manage to fluff manoeuvres that a toddler could perform when you could really do without that happening, begins to feel suspiciously large.

I was playing Wood Elves in BB once, because I had had a fun WElf team in the boardgame version some twenty years ago,

Went up against a Dwarf team. Was thinking "Ok, Dwarves. Ain't no way I can tackle them, but they're clumsy as feth and not very fast. This is going to need to be a passing game."

Apparently, the game heard me, because the Dwarves ran a passing game and were nailing long-bomb throws over the heads of three defenders.

Dwarves? Play a passing game? That's... no. In Bloodbowl, Dwarves are a defensive team that is lucky to score, but is near-impossible to score against, because trying to slip by them is freakin' tough.

Also... as soon as you earn enough XP to convert a basic player into a Star Player and get some perks? Every game you play, that dude will be targeted by the opposing team for Foul actions, until they're dead or crippled.

Every. Fething. Time.

This. Played Bloodball on PC and at higher difficulty levels, the game only gets harder because it cheats the living hell ouf of you.

Upon further inspection these allegations of cheating are bogus. Probably the result of certain small statured creatures bribing certain officials.

In other words BB doesn't cheat. Its just that the extreme cases of luck are more noticeable than average luck. Several sources online say that the algorithm used for calculating random numbers is one of the better ones and that in real life Blood Bowl is actually more ruthless and unforgiving.

Still building that pitch though!

At no level of statistics will Dwarves consistently beat either version of Elves at a passing game, and yet...

Or if one of your players is dead.. an apothecary will roll dead again every single time.. dice rolls are 100% borked.. the reason I am not that excited for BB2 is instead of holding their hands up and admitting that's what they did as a short cut to raise difficulty, Cyanide repeats that nothing cheats in game and we are all wrong.

Even though player after players experiences of playing the game, especially those who have played enough of the tabletop to know what just doesn't happen (read Dwarf passing example above) says otherwise.


edit - only reason I still have mine is for 2 player.. game doesn't feel the need to cheat if it doesn't have a hand in it.

Well, maybe that was an oddball Dwarf team. Apothecary rerolls have been a waste, I'll admit that. Its usually the same result or worse.

I'm not going to argue that an algorithm can produce a truly random die roll, that's physically impossible without an actual die, but I can't say I'm unhappy with the game. After... A lot of hours, I feel like I've seen enough to decide that my money was well spent.

At any rate...

I'm playing as a Chaos team and I'm finding it difficult to choose skills on level ups. So far I really like using things like Prehensile Tail and Tentacles on Beastmen to create cages.

Honestly, the extreme cases being more noticeable works for actual tabletop luck, but as has been said 'extreme' is the BB video game's average. I'd go as far as to suggest that the few people who feel the video game's algorithms are fine and good quality are focusing on more noticeable examples of good or average luck; more or less the inverse of what they're suggesting everyone else is focused on.

Well I've been playing on normal mode, as I feel like normal is the setting they design the game for, and I've been winning matches so...

It can't be all that bad.

AT! Any rate...

I have a Chaos team and we are doing well, but I'm not sure how to level up my dudes. I have a surprisingly effective passing game thanks to Extra Arms, and a couple lucky AG boosts. I have one guy with SH,EA,Pro (a beastman). He is my ball handler, but I also have one guy with +1AG, Strong Arm, and Extra Arms, he is my passer.

I really want to expand on this versatility but I'm not sure what other skills are going to help me. I know its a silly idea trying to run a Chaos Team like a Human Team, but hey! That's Blood Bowl!

I've been playing the snot(ling) out of the Steam version, though I'm ashamed to admit that I easily out-cheat the computer. I think that bad dice rolls, and good dice rolls are par for the course, though I swear my guys foul up picking up the ball at least 40% more than the opponent!
