Stumbled across this at the weekend and after seeing contents and price my thought was FFG does this stuff way better. Not only do FFG manage to produce games with more content and cheaper, they do it whilst having to pay licence fees to the company's whose IP they use. What's GW's excuse?

GW own the IP, produce their own artwork, design & produce their own models and have a casting production line in place. If FFG can produce the Horus Heresy board game at a cheaper price then this then GW are seriously missing the point.

I've got that FFG Horus Heresy board game and while it's a quality product it's not even vaguely similar - no models, just small soft plastic playing pieces, nice board with plastic inserts, lots of cards. This is nice quality, multi-part models. Apples and oranges, really. It's true though, GW's stuff tends to be expensive. Good spot.

I havent read the article but this came via Faeit - it looks like a fake, e.g. 'Chapters' are unknown to HH, aren't they? Or is this sheet for 40k?

What do you guys think?

It is said these are handed out to buyers of the box in GW shops.

Hard to tell, but that looks like a "For use in 40k" sheet - the Age of Darkness force org makes no allowances for Formations.

It's fake, you can tell by forth word in the fluff.

I know GW often fails with proof reading but even they would have picked up 'mighties'.

Fake, look at the "Boltweapons" typo. Also, GW is a UK company, so it would be ARMOURY and not ARMORY.

House rules for local campaigns, not official GW. Origin of it is said to be GW Halle (Germany) who posted it on their FB page.

Horus Heresy is not getting formations at this point.

Can someone explain what the gameplay actually is? It says in the description that it's tunnel based, yet I can't make out what's on the tiles. If it was tunnel-based I would have expected something similar to Space Hulk.

It's tunnel based in that it takes place under the surface of Calth.

Tunnels can vary in size you know... that and the IoM doesn't really do small when it comes to building.

The hexes with the red outline are cover areas.

Prospero - Space Wolves vs. Thousand Sons

Something like this to include all of the legions would be nice. They could switch up the models by including some specialist units (assault and breacher squads) and new HQs. Vehicles do not fit in the theme of fighting in closed tunnels, but maybe other dread types could be included or ways of including small skimmers.

Oh, plastic Breachers would be beyond awesome! The next set needs to be Phall, and we need Breaher Marines/MkIII Armour, Tartaros Terminators with TH/SS options and maybe Rapiers in plastic too! GW, make it happen!

Phall does lend itself to the Calth game design. The legions are easy to make new kits for and would be in high demand. It is naturally set in the closed corridors of a ship, compatible with the style of game tiles. Please GW, make these happen.

The only problem is that I am still too poor to even afford this set.

Hopefully I can get it when they do a second run next year.

Plastic Mk II/III would be amazing. Breachers would be easy enough to convert from there. But I certainly wouldn't complain about full plastic Breachers!

It might be cool if there were a bunch of different sets for different battles, but I kinda feel like if they did that they might start making the minis more chapter-specific. I like these because they’re kinda vanilla looking so you can paint them up to be anything. I think it would be better if they kept it as 1 main boxed game and then released new expansion packs with different units. Either as squad boxes or maybe kinda like how games like Descent put out a campaign pack with a few extra boards & monsters based on a certain theme.

Whisperer's posts about the release gives more hope for other 30k plastic releases next year he mentioned. Fair Play to him for calling this release months off!

Thought I remembered him mentioning Phall was a 2nd box coming out, but looks like he got the warzone wrong, unless the box is a carbon copy. We can forgive him though!

Looking back at the start of the other thread, can't believe it was February when we saw those sprues!

If the core game is solid enough and the follow-up game has contents and setting diverse enough from Betrayal on Calth, it will sell as well.

My point was more I thought I remembered him mentioning Phall as a 2nd and different box, but just seems the name got mixed up for the Calth box. He was spot on with everything else, and gives us promise for those future 30k releases!

Here's hoping to those plastic breachers!

Dakka, Ive been out of the loop for a while now. Been wanting to start a 30K army for a long time, and now seeing this looks like a steal. If I bought it Id end up converting the box set to Iron Warriors or Emperors Children. However, I dont want to blow 150$ if it turns out this set isnt worth it. Fill me in Dakka: steal or no steal?
Looks like theyre all pretty decent quality, and they look like pretty sweet models.

Just goes with the whole, make the game your own meme of GW games. Any rule is a good rule... as long as you like it! And if you don't, change it or make another.
