Is there really no way to deal with 6's on stomps when it comes to primarchs?
I ask because one of the only 30k players locally for me is a knight player. Is there a rule I'm missing, or is a 6 on a stomp really just a "kill off your 400 point model" button?

..yes..

Don't let your primarch get into combat with a knight.

If your primarch has FNP, they can still roll for it (as FNP isnt a save)

really? I thought a 6 was instant-death, so I still get a FNP, huh?

No a 6 on the D chart causes 6+d6 wounds with no saves allowed
FNP isnt a save, so you can migate some of the wounds

Each model from the unit being stomped that is even partially under the blast marker is removed as a casualty.
- Stomped, 6

You are mistaking the D-chart for the Stomped Chart.

Use Alpharius, hide him in a 10 man Terminator squad
Assault with terminators
Knight kills some
Do a number of hits with power fists
Knight stomps some
Reveal Alpharius!
S6 AP1 Armourbane attacks
knight kills some terminators
Powerfists finish off knight

Assuming the stomp is not a 6, cause that 'remove from play' Rule is quite brutal....

Firstly they are talking about stomps not the D table. Secondly you can not take FnP against ANY Destroyer attacks...

so, is there any widley used homebrews to help balance out the devastation of stomp on non-vehicle lords of war?

You get nothing if a 6 is rolled on the Stomp chart. You're just gone. There isn't even a wound inflicted.

Why would there need to be? Its a counter to stuff that might otherwise be very very difficult to kill.

I'm sorry your uber expensive model got trivially removed by my uber expensive model. The point trade is hardly egregious.

People whine when their 400+ point Knight gets taken out by a couple guys with Melta guns which cost maybe 65 points.

Because having 1-3 chances to completly remove basically anything other than a super heavy is on par with diverting points to do a specific job?

Given the price tag that comes with that Stomp attack, I think its ok.

Incorrect, they cant roll for FNP as no unsaved wound is created on a stomp roll of 6

Read the FNP rule again, it says how it interacts with D/Instant Death

To be fair, most of the primarchs should take out a knight easy enough before it swings - especially with a body guard

To be fair, if your Primarch is gong toe to toe with a superheavy walker, you might not be making the best decisions for your army.

Indeed. Knights actually are pretty fragile. And aside from Stomps they lack volume of attacks.

True enough!

Angron, Horus, Vulkan, Perturabo, Ferrus, Guilleman should all either kill a knight with ease or at least have a reasonable shot at it.

Fulgrim, Kurze, Corax, Lorgar, alpharius, Dorn all MIGHT be able to deal with it but its far more iffy for them. They all lack the reliable High Strength/volume of attacks/armour bane in some combination to make it reliable like their other brothers.

With any of these models though - if they are properly supported with another unit - they should be fine

Why didn't you include Ferrus Manus ?

Also I have found that 30k and 40k are basically two completely different games. 30k is internally balanced since except for AdMech and IG all armies are Marines. The IG army does not seem to be catching on but the AdMech is really good. 30k is more cinematic and I think you could ask for a house rule that Primarchs are immune to a 6 on the stomp. Angron got nova cannoned and stomped on by a Titan and survived so from a background perspective it's feasible.

If you are playing competively then just be careful.

A space wolf terminator got stomped on by a titan and wasn't even slowed down. It's hardly justification to make them immune to it.

Also, a nova cannon would annihilate many countries. Angron was not hit by one.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Wasn't it a warhound plasma gun?

As for this -

jokerkd wrote:Wasn't it a warhound plasma gun?

While yes it was a plasma blast gun - it was Lorgar who got hit by it - twice. Angron was stomped on by the same warhound but I guess the player did not roll a 6!

In the BL authors' defense, TDA really is suppose to be immune to plasma. It's just that GW ignores their own background material when writing game rules. When TDA was first introduced, they ignored plasma and pretty much any weapon other that power weapons.

Not immune, just resistant. Hence the 5+ invuln save.

That's not at all how TDA worked when first introduced. Generic "power weapons" weren't a thing until 3rd Ed. In first and 2nd ed for example a power sword was just a S6 weapon that did -3 modifier to your save (Banshees were awesome then). It was just a 2+ save at first. Then became a 3+ in 2nd Ed but taken on 2d6 added together.

Additionally, it wasn't plasma weapons they were designed to be immune to.

It was radiant heat from plasma engines, so it would be safe to work on them while active.

Kinda like how those thermal suits scientists wear when working on Volcanos work. They'll keep the radiant heat from burning you, but if you fall into the lava it ain't doing much.
