You can go to your local hardware store and get some primer. It's the same stuff. $1 a can in my area.

I use Vallejo primer. You can brush it on by hand or with an airbrush.

I like the Duplicolor flat sandable auto primer.

GW stuff is rebranded duplicolor anyway.

I use rustolium quick color black and grey in flat.

Also various airbrushing primers

Krylon has been my go to for a long time, but nearly any black spray primer will work fine. As someone said, GW doesn't make it's own primer and has changed manufacturers over the years. It used to be rebranded Krylon, now I believe it's duplicolor.

Anyone that tries to sell you on GW "primer" (it's not primer, it's spray paint) being better for your models is full of crap.

I really wish people would stop saying this.

No. It's not "the same stuff". The $1/can stuff? It ain't good unless you have the holy grail of priming conditions. Anytime I've used it, it gunks up the detail on my models--and it's why I refuse to buy second-hand locally from any of the tools who talk about "Yeah, I just use hardware store stuff!".

it all depends on the paint types you use, if you use oil based paints, you use an oil based primer, if you use a water based paint (acrylic) you use a water based primer (me I use Liquitex from Michael's), if you use an enamel based paint, other paint types will not adhere to it well, they will flake off over time.

I had a question, I'm assuming the recommendation of these primers are for plastic and metal. My question is are they also for resin, and does it matter if its Forgeworld or Failcast?

If you've washed the resin properly it won't really matter. You know what though, it's always a good idea to hit your resin with a coat of matte varnish before priming. If you do that then whatever primer will do.

I use auto primers, either Hycote or Halfords (though the latter is a UK brand afaik), and have actually found them better than brands from wargaming companies.

I use Krylon Color Master for my priming. It lays down a nice smooth finish and it STAYS on the model. Beats the hell out of Rustoleum or Citadel stuff in my opinion.

Almost all primers I've googled for got ~400 ml and are priced for ~10 Dollars, except Citadel Chaos Black that is ~10 Pounds, which makes nearly 15 dollars I believe and it's ~400 ml too.

I'm using Tamiya Grey 280 ML that costs ~11 $, but in my third world country is sold for 14$, which makes it really not worthy, but I decide to choose it before the Hardware car spray cans for 1-2 $ (they sell only paint thou, no primer, if someone can tell the difference it will be great)

That's what I use, as well. I'm quite happy with it. The one can of GW Chaos Black spray I used might have been a tiny bit better, but, if so, it's barely measurable. The price difference is easily measurable.

Halfords in UK do a big can of flat black that works wonders, also their primer can are great too.

It may be worth pointing out, as long as we're on the topic, any spray primer (best, most expensive, cheapest, worst) will do at least a little better if it's not cold. Put some hot water (not boiling, or even close to boiling, just hot-water-tap hot) in a small bucket or bowl and let the spray can sit in it for a while.
