Thank you Buttery for pointing that out. I knew this to be the case but I just needed someone else to say it.
Sure if we wanna jive about actual storytelling devices and how sex in the 41st millenuim helps us to understand sex today, then cool!
I was just terrified that the convo would devolve into space marine death sentence sex and how boob armour is so rage inducingly wrong.
However I do have to question the validity of injecting philosophical thought into anything Graham " the Hack" McNeill had anything to do with. His greatest storytelling device was Fulgrim having a Britney Spears style meltdown. Its Fulgrim, bitches! Lol.
Seriously, Black Library could be so much better than it is. Too bad no one is ever going to tire of graphic Eldar rape scenes and the righteous roar of bolter fire...

There is some validity to this question. 40k is supposed to be a combination of the dark ages of the past and the uncaring industrial machine of the future. these two worlds give us our grimdark setting that we love so much, but they don't always mesh. Sex is ones of these areas. Should we assume people live in a super conservative and pious community where anything sexual is frowned upon? Perhaps the rulers of the imperium are more like the futuristic setting, where they simply do not care as long as the machine is fed?
The answer a person chooses can show where they think the imperium sits on the spectrum.

Yeah, the crack-down didn't really get started until Puritanism came around, which was way, way after the Dark Ages.
However, if you wanted to toy with those sorts of concepts, there's a million worlds in the Imperium, at least one of them is going to live like 1640 America. You could even blend cultural traits of different real-world societies into a mish-mash of religious and social customs.

It's not philosophical. The church encouraged fething, nudity was everywhere, and during some holidays where everybody dressed up in masks, people would even start having anonymous sex in the middle of the church.

It got better too. In inns people, complete strangers, would all sleep naked in the same bed to stay warm, and children learned sex-ed by watching their parents in the bunk opposite theirs. The invention of pajamas was seen as a groundbreaking achievement.

Are you sure about that? The Catholic Church was incredibly powerful and important in the daily life of the Dark Ages, and the church did not like sex one bit. They had a huge lot of laws on when sex was allowed and when not: This chart could very well apply to conservative Imperial worlds in 40k too, I guess. That is the weirdest thing I have heard in years. The Catholic Church, and the early Church especially have always been noted for their negative attitudes towards sexuality. Pretty much all sex was seen as sinful (and one of the most important origins of sin, the selfish pleasure of the flesh distracts one from God), and it still is in most Christian denomitions today. Nudity was considered very sinful too, and women were supposed to cover up as much as possible, preferably with long dresses and headscarfs. Just reading works by the Church Fathers makes it pretty clear.

Whaaaat?
The Catholic Church encouraged sex as baby making was critical. Also the Church was far less conservative at the time considering that Popes often had multiple mistresses and it was more surprising if a member of the Church gave a damn about the whole "marrying god" part. The idea of the Catholic Church being a bunch of prudes is a myth made during the Victorian age and the overall growth of a more conservative world during that time.

I... I Don't know what you have been reading, but they definitely were not canonical Christian works. Christianity has always been extremely negative about sex and any other "worldly pleasures", as you should focus only on the spiritual. Augustine of Hippo (one of the most influential Church Fathers) wrote on this: In On Christian Doctrine Augustine contrasts love, which is enjoyment on account of God, and lust, which is not on account of God.[140] For Augustine, proper love exercises a denial of selfish pleasure and the subjugation of corporeal desire to God
I probably don't have to mention that 'lust' was considered a sin. The only non-sinful sex in early Catholic (and up to the 20th Century) doctrine is sex that has making kids as goal. Sex for fun is sin. Of course, you can wonder how much official Church teachings had effect on the peasants, but I don't know if there are any reliable sources about that...

I guess it is like puritanical america, in public they denounce all sexual activity as being the work of chaos and only the emotionless way as described by the Ecclesiarchy is the only way to procreate. Behind the scenes they are members of a slaneshi coven doing things that make the movie salo look like a family movie.

Guys, I just want to point out that my question was answered, and it wasn't due to a lack of understanding of the Imperium that I asked, it was due to a lack of understanding of Chaos and Daemons - which I presumed to be more powerful and pervasive than they actually are. I guess I've been reading too much Imperial propaganda.

Aye, regular sex (or even enjoyable sex) is no more likely to damn you or power up Slaanesh than having a birthday cake.
In fact I cannot remember precisely, but I know it's been quoted in this forum before, the Inquisition can perversely get rather suspicious of high ranking people who don't have an area of excitement/release in their lives. Many inquisitors make a point of enjoying one aspect a little just to stay sane/human/pure. Having a personal chef, a wine cellar, actually allowing for family, that sort of thing.
You need to remember that Slaanesh is a the kind of power that influences folk to use their own warm blood in giant paintings, not just enjoy using finger-paints on occasion.

I'm genuinely unsure if this is sarcasm and I did a stating the obvious... These days I'm so tired that I'm unsure.
Honestly in my eyes, the obstacle in this topic wasn't with the looming shadow of naughty parts, it was with comparison between the Imperial Creed and our own religion. We made it a page.
