So I'm in a local league where we play a game once a week and so far my Skitarii and someone else's IG are doing the best.
As the points increase gradually in not sure what my army will 100% consist of but I'm gonna be using both Cult and Skitarii
I've heard he uses mobs of infantry and chamieras if that makes sense
Is there any tricks of IG I should be aware of or a nice way to beat them? I'm thinking
maybe vangaud can drown the infantry in bullets but I haven't really delt with tanks - I used my dagoons to kill 2 raiders.
I have atleast one of every model, any tips? Maybe I bring an imperial knight for some large blasts? I also have eldar wraith gaurd, 1 lord and one knight and I have necrons too if any of those armys may help

A possibility may be a deathstar of the robot maniples with flamers and power fists but that could get tarpitted pretty quickly

The IG has really one trick: Outlasting the opponent.

That should be easy for you to counter. They're not a great army atm.

If you face lots of armour:
-Deepstrike / Outflank
-Get into melee ASAP

If you face lots of infantry:
-Sit back and shoot
-Blast, blasts and more blasts

If they've brought a Baneblade, you've already won.

If they've brought any other LoW, kill it ASAP.

I'm not sure what that means, or what it is referring to...

Once it gets to 1500 points or so I'm not too worried and I can just run the war convocation... But until then in not 100% sure what I should take as anti tank, maybe instead of plasma calivers on my vangaurd arc rifles and then take some onagers with the neutron lazer? I could probs take an imperial knight at around 1000 pts? Idk what the rule is for super heavys

Don't focus on his infantry. Whilst that's a lot of dice incoming, especially if you're inside 12" and he got his orders off, it's very rarely going to wipe out one of your units if it's at full health. They're called flashlights for a reason.
Focus on his CCS, PCS, chimera and tanks. If you take out the command squads, he can no longer give orders.

We have a few real strengths:
As Selym said, you'll never table a Guard player if he's infantry-heavy.
Ability to swarm objective markers due to this.

So keep an eye if he starts runnign squads off to occupy areas, you can soon be swamped and get the markers clogged up.

We also don't like being punched. Push that advantage.

Yea, the IG crumbles in assault faster than a fresh Digestive in a child's fist.

Unless its a blob squad supported by a Priest with some Psyker support. Then they do pretty well against troops, and possibly even elite choices.

Cognis flamers on your cult stuff. Arc rifles on your skitarii. Good starting point.

Pretty much. Unless he allies a wraithknight just to throw you a curveball.

Grav is mostly useless against guard unless you are trying to immobilize out Russes.

As said before, just try and avoid the infantry. If he advances them at you to get into rapid fire range, take out the command squads. If he sits back he's not getting much benefit from all those infantry so don't bother. Generally speaking, target priority is done by simply counting the number of special and heavy weapons in a squad and picking the one with the highest. Kill it completely and move to the next squad.

Also don't discount Guard in assault. I run my Imperial Guard assault oriented and while it's not terribly competitive, they aren't slouches either.

There are 3 common guard options, and combinations of those.

Blobguard -> Big Blobs of guards behind an agis line. -> Kill the command squads that make everything better, kill all long ranged stuff and start with the long ranged stuff in small squishy squads. Win the game by objectives or just by assaulting it.

Lemanrusses spam-> Not that good at all the the dmg output isn't really that high. Kill it with whatever you use for vehicles. This should be easy.

Artillery guard -> Immobile T7 or wyveren tanks behind agis lines. Nasty buggers these things have an insane dmg output and are really resistent to shooting. Get up close fast and kill them in assault.

There are also the slightly uncommon ones.

Flyer spamm. -> Suprise
Pray that this only happens when you bring decent anti air options.

Rough rider lists-> Assault guard, its fun and rare. Don't get intimidated just shoot them down or charge them first.

This is what I play and it is combined with Blob Guard. Essentially it's blobs of 30-50 guardsmen packed with Power Axe Sergeants, Power Fist Commissars, Priests, and Ordo Xenos Inquisitors (Hammerhand and Rad Grenades make this unit devastating).

Tactics revolve around charging stuff and dieing in droves. A maxed out Colonel Straken/ Nork Deddog command squad and Rough Riders fill out the rest of the army generally. Loads of fun for everyone involved and never a dull moment. You're going to want to just shoot it, as assaulting it is a terrible idea.

Anywho this isn't what this thread is about. OP you'll be fine against Imperial Guard. It's a low tier army.
