Hello
My friend and I both have Eldar army's and on their own they are pretty scrubby as we don't have the proper units to win on our own. However when we combine our army's we are pretty good, we're able to do the formations and all of that cool stuff. However some people in our group don't think we should be able to do that as its too OP even though we are the same army. As far as I know there is nothing in the rule book that says 2 players can't combine their army's. What difference does it make if 2 players join their army's to make it competitive and stand a chance against other people that have more bigger and fleshed out army's? My side of the argument is it's not like combining Space Marines and Tau, we are combing 2 of the same army to make a bigger one, essentially its the same army with 2 people controlling it?
Thank you in advance.

2 players make strategies better than only 1 and, cover for the mistakesmade by the other player and generally take more time to finish their round than just 1

I'd play without any problems, though.

Not sure I fully understand the situation. Are you two guys playing together at the same time against an opponent?

Like a 2000 point game with each of you bringing 1000 and the other guy bringing his own 2000 point army?

If thats the case I can see how some would take issue, but personally I wouldnt care. I'd play it and just hope that one more guy in the game means one more game to have fun with. ^_^

A disadvantage is that you can't bring as much Elites/FA/HS/LoW because you are required to bring more troops and HQs than you would normally need to, CAD of course.

Though with Eldar your troops are pretty amazing, so it really isn't a concern for the space elves.

If you managed to build up a full sized army and play alone would they still complain about it being OP? Since it is the same as 1 Eldar army. The only real advantage is that two minds are better than one, but that's really a tactical skill level thing more than being a unbalanced army.

I've done this multiple times with friends. Fielding my full army against two partial armies while they build up their collections. It works just fine across the table. It's just slower than playing against one opponent that knows what they're doing.

Unless you're asking to so it in a tournament, I have no problems at all with it. I don't see how it's different from playing 2v1 with different armies any other time which I do often.

There are some subtle differences between 2x1,000 point armies and a single 2,000 point one. The smaller armies invest a larger percentage of their lists in “tax” units, where the larger one might be restricted by the FOC. The ability to take full advantage of formations is an advantage for the larger lists.

If your game is “everyone bring 1,000 points” or something similar, you should abide by the same restrictions as the rest of the players. That said, you should be able to loan units to and from your friend to make more competitive lists. If, for example, you only own two aspect squads, you could borrow one from him to field the formation. As long as everyone’s army is legal at the end of the day.

It looks to me like they are just making one 2000 point list together, then each of them just uses the stuff they own so they can use the formations.
