A Gladius Strike Force (probably Ultramarines or White Scars) that focuses on bringing lots of Razorbacks to the table is a very popular setup lately.

White Scars Bike army with some Grav Cents is another. Khan on a bike with a Grav Command Squad and lots of other bikes.

Skyhammer Annihilation Force with Grav Cannon toting Devastators.

Imperial fist gladius with lascannon devastators and lascannon razorbacks. Getting rerolls and tank hunters on lascannon shots goes a long way, and their 600 pts of free stuff add insult to injury.

Gladius Strike Force with Khan giving all the transports scout. Outflanking, objective secured and free transports with vanilla marines is very effective at winning objectives.

Yeah pretty much.

Because you can get Librarians in a conclave, and techmarines at a discount with thunderfire cannons.

If you want a budget HQ, Telion is preety good as it also give your budget Sniper Scout which he joins stealth, so no need to pick camo cloak, altough the downside is he is a named UM IC......

Not pure codex Marines, but don't forget superfriends/wolfstar. I played against 3 wolfstars and one more list with a couple wolf units in it at NOVA, out of 8 games.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Yep.

Run him with a command squad with a narthecium , bikes, some storm shields, grav guns, and power weapons, and you’ve got yourself a deathstar that actually got better with the 7th edition codex ( as now they get a 4+ FNP instead of 5+ due to chapter tactics stacking with narthecium)

Plus there is a 1/3 chance of getting the space marine warlord trait that grants FNP 5+ to the warlord which would bring his FNP save up to a 2+

When the stars align for that to happen, smile and watch as he goes from tough to nearly unkillable as he is shrugging off anything short of strength D.

Basically, it is thunderwolves (or Bikes) joined by many special characters also on thunderwolves or bikes with thunderhammers or power fists/axes and storm shields. The space wolf characters bring fenrisian wolves for ablative wounds. Add chaplains, librarians, whatever you think you need. It ignores terrain with a 12" move, hits with a massive amount of S8/9 AP2 attacks, and is majority toughness 5 with a 3++. It also takes up so much room that it's very difficult to run away from or avoid, and can multi-charge quite easily.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Centstar is gaining popularity again especially with the librarian conclave. Tons of variations for this type of army but basically the centurions with grav cannons do the shooting while special charachters join the unit to make it more resilient and mobile and even better at shooting with the psychic powers they bring. Common / arguably required charachters are draigo, tigarius/loth, coteaz, librarians (either separately or from conclave), sanguinary priests, Azrael, etc

Really fun army once you get the hang of it but requires finesse and mastery of the psychic phase and leaves little room for error especially in the current meta
