Well just got my Mek Gunz here and I'll hopefully take them out for a spin in a week or two. I'm still trying them out, but since I'm pretty sure I'll be going against a buddy who plays Necrons, what are your guys' opinions on a Necron killer: Smasha Gun for AP 1, KMK for AP2 Blast that doubles out Warriors, or a take all S8 AP3 Kannon?

My buddy runs a normal Necron list, Overlord on chariot, some Wraiths and a Spider, maybe some Scarabs, Ghost Ark or two, and usually two fat blobs of Warriors.

I realize it's a rather rare opinion, but I honestly don't really like lootas. Easily killed, easily broken, expensive, and unreliable. I prefer tankbustas for anti-vehicle (though they have the most of the same survivability issues as lootas), and almost anything else for anti-infantry. Plus, tankbustas only take up the near-useless elites slot, and therefore don't compete for HS slots with mek guns.

Mek guns, on the other hand, are tough, cheap, and pack a solid punch.

For a general-purpose list, I'll go for mek guns every time.

I'm curious about what you're using as a proxy. There's a couple good youtube videos of people making them out of trukk parts, which I've tried to good effect.

And I LOVE tau ion cannons for converting mek guns, if you can get your hands on any.

Everything this guy said: TB's, Bikes, and Maxed Mek Gunz. I got 20 old Trukks of eBay and have converted 4 so far to go with my one official GW MG model (for size comparison).

I run max size KMK, Lobbas (worth their weight in gold), and 5 Traktor Kannonz. TheTKannonz are currently just the old yet-to-be-converted Trukks. I have very understanding opponents. I also have 5 regular Kannonz I don't use.

I've tried the Smasha and didn't like it in comparison to the KMK. Small blasts are at least on the table whereas I was running horrible to hit with Smasha. Also, the AP1 vs AP2 has only ever mattered once. The other reason I took Smasha was possible snaps against fliers, but now I have 5 Traktor Kannonz that will snap at other things.

That was my thoughts as well. Plus at BS3, scattering on to my own guys isn't a huge worry (they're Orkz, screw em). However, what's the advantage of the Lobbas? They're S5 AP5 L. Blasts that are cheap. Is it just the Barrage that adds up (using Barrage cuz they're in a squad right)?

Barrage allows yu to fire without needing Line of Sight.

Also allows Sniping since you takecasualities from the centre of the barrel and can negate cover if out in the open. (for same reason).

Couple with 48" range and it's a bargain for what it does.

Lobbas are great because of the barrage rule and ammo runts. You shoot once, have a high chance to get a hit when you account for BS3 and the reroll, and every scatter after will almost always hit something which stacks up wounds. This lets Orks try to snipe out a character or special weapon while being both dirt cheap and incredibly durable to shooting.

Flashy Flashgitz

Sorry I didn't see your reply! Flashgitz only have a24" range and armor 6+, and they need to start halted to gain their bs of 3.

The same solution works for all three, take a battle wagon.

Place it in a good position on the field, then advance 12" only allowing them a snap shot turn 1. I generally shoot at a horde with this shot to minimize casualties.
After their pathetic first round of shooting my new opponents usually write them off as useless. That's when turn 2 I aim for my real target and lay into them at bs3 and if my AP roll went well, I also use my ammo runts at this points annihilating the unit.
But that's how I do things to make up for their loss of armor 4+ in this codex.
Also don't forget they are nobs with 4 attacks on the charge and s5 with 2 wounds and initiative 3. They aren't chumps in cc.

Lastly, for Necron, you have to cut down their saves! If they have 2 saves every shooting attack they won't die and you will lose. So s8ap2 will give them 1, 5+ then death. Utilize this as much as possible. Make sure they never have 2 saves. Litchguard should be ignored. They will not die, so don't bother even looking in their direction. Just send boys at them to slow them down.
