Hello Community,

I had some Ideas for a new Necron army in my head and just wanted to know how much sanity a new awakened Necron Lord or Overlord can have these days. I know that the fluff of the necrons changed in 5th edition when Ward took over the wheel but i´m not entirely sure how far you can go. Are there Necron Lords who can actually speak with their enemies, or even try to negotiate?

Well, when a newly awakened tomb world was being attacked my orks, they gave the orks some weapons to go fight something else. Granted, those orks went and blew themselves up, but there was diplomacy.

I'd imagine a decent amount of Lords are sane on some level, I doubt that an army, even one as powerful as the necrons, could have all of their leaders being incompetently insane to the point where they hinder the army more than actually help it.

As much as you like and your plot demands...

Thats how GW does it

Yeah well xD But not many people like the way that GW does it xD

Well I just plan for my Necron Lord to actually talk a little bit more to his enemies or propably even allies. So they atleast talked to orks at some point in the past, so that might allow me to do some more things. Are there any more examples of negotiations or something like that?

Maybe insanity is a wrong approach but when I think about Necrons I have these silent guys in my head who just wake up to kill everything that moves, and that may sound cool but really kills any kind of creative fluff ideas.

Its pretty common for high ranking Necrons to talk, in the Codex and BL novels alike

In the necron section of the fluff book in the BRB it says that necrons have used all sorts of methods to try and reconquer their dynasties, ranging from negotiation to all out genocide. As for your noble's sanity, necron nobles can be anywhere on the spectrum from totally sane (Anrakyr) to delusional (Zandrekh) to totally insane (destroyer lords). So basically, you can do whatever you want!

They can range from completely sane to gibbering mess.
They often talk to their enemies, Trazyn wrote a letter to an Inquisitor even.

Basically it varies from lord to lord. Some wake up with their mental facilities fully intact and are sane. Others wake up bonkers. It's up to you really

Another case of diplomacy is that Grey Knights use tesseracts the crons gave them to capture daemons. Pretty sweet deal for the IoM, since they get free tech that makes a daemon suffer a fate worse than death.

That she subsequently got out of. Wat? I thought Ctan's couldn't escape those.

The Assassinorum Callidus also uses a Ctan blade, and I'm sure the other branches of Assassins utilize secret necron-tech. Probably their ships.

Unless something went wrong with the awakening/stasis process, Necron lords will have their faculties pretty much intact. As much as a heartless 10 billion year old alien mind can be.

C'tan aren't psykers. I suspect if you're a good enough psyker, you can get out of a tesseract labyrinth.

She didn't get out of it IIRC. She just recognized it was a trap and dodged it.

The letter between the two is some of the best veiled-threats writing in the entire history of the game.

Between

Also the grounds for an absolutely epic foemance between the two as they continue to send each other increasingly elaborate assassination attempts disguised as correspondence.
