Subject: 30k Artillery - Medusas and Basilisks

I'm getting done the infantry portion of my legion army, and now am considering vehicles and non-infantry Heavy Support.
I'm most interested in the artillery tanks...specifically Medusas and Basilisks. The main reason this draws me is for the fun of laying down Barrage pie plates (I guess I have IG envy)
Question 1: I'm a bit confused by the rules. Can you only bring 3 of a single variety of the artillery tanks, or can you mix and match in one unit?
Question 2: If I can only take 1 variety in a unit, then left to my own thinking, I'd likely choose the Medusa due to no minimum on range like the Basilisk has/ Is this a bad choice? Are Basilisks and/or Whirwinds better?
Question 3: I'll be pursuing this as a conversion project. Hence, alot more work for me. I don't want to spend alot of energy on something that plays like crap on the table, so are these decent Heavy Support options? My goal here is to provide high-test backfield Heavy Support. For context, I already have several Heavy Support Squads (1 lascannon, 1 plasma cannon, 1 heavy bolter, and 1 missile launcher support squad). Are there other options I should be looking at?

Question 1: Look at the profile for the unit in the heavy support section... It should tell you whether it is 1-3 artillery units or 1-3 of a specific type.
Question 2: The minimum range only applies to indirect fire. Direct fire however has no minimum range and you can also use the units BS to negate the scatter.
Question 3: Basilisk tends to be lackluster imo and it misses a lot. Has to be over 36" to fire directly, but S9 AP3 is defiantly a marine killer. The Medusa has better stats but requires a line of sight and is only 36". Also what games are you playing? In many games 36" is quite adequate. Can't comment on whirlwinds seeing it has been a while. But if you want a unit you place right at the back the Basilisk's may be your choice. However with the barrage rules, if you have them in a single unit and one misses, odds are your other two shots will also miss.

Q1: The wording in the HH army list is unclear to me (as much as I like the Crusade Army List, it is filled with, lets say, confusing combinations of words).
Q2: Thanks foir that info, I did not know that. Makes Basilisks a bit more attractive.
Q3: I'm not sure what you mean by "what games are you playing". We play out of the 40k rulebook obviously. Maelstrom missions are just not played in my meta, so its almost always Eternal Crusade, and some players just like to play Purge the Alien without rolling for Eternal Crusade mission. Not sure if that's what you were after with the question.

Q1: It should either say 1-3 vehicles or 1-3 Medusas etc
Q3: More board size specific more than anything else.

Oh ok....tablewise we play on a 6"x4" up to 4000 point games, and if we play more points than that well expand it to 8"x4", but it's pretty rare for me to play above 4k these days due to the time it takes.
We use lots of scenery usually.
