Hey guys,

My wife picked me up imperial assault the other day and we love it!

Just wondered what ally/villan packs we should get to start with. Are any "must haves" or does it not really matter?

I'm still tooling around with it myself, but I think the inevitable answer will be "buy everything".

That would also be the correct answer.

I haven't completed that necessary step. I just have "almost everything".

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yeah, I don't have the new stuff (Twin Shadows + the new expansions) but they're on my list.

I think the hoth expansion will be a must have for sure

Are you playing the campaign game or Skirmish?

For me, it's all about the campaign. I'd start off with General Weiss, just to have the model for when he turns up in a mission. After that, I'd probably get the Rebel Saboteurs and Rebel Troopers ally packs (as I understand it, they're more useful to the Rebel players than the character Ally packs). Then the other Villain packs (the Royal Guard character, etc) and the characters such as Han, Chewie, etc.

I'd play through the campaign fully before spending the money on the Twin Suns and Return To Hoth expansions and related Ally and Villain Packs.

Do the Hero/Villain whatever packs offer anything for Campaign Play? There isn't any local community for the Skirmish game, but I love padding out/randomizing content for campaign games, so if there is any way to integrate those expansions I would be interested.

The wife has a friend looking to get into the game who likewise wanted to know about the expansion situation. What does a Campaign player buy? All the content, or just the big-box items?

Yes, all of the expansion packs come with side missions that get shuffled into your side mission pool. Plus, you get the figures which is a lot nicer than playing with the cardboard chits that come with the base game.

Twin Shadows adds more missions to make a mini-campaign plus two new heroes and Return to Hoth will offer a brand new full length campaign.

As an aside, having the figures is nice for using with the RPG systems.

"I find your lack of faith, disturbing."
"There's too many of them..." *static*

To get an idea for what an expansion pack adds, OK at the bid for Vader's and Luke's in the main box. I'd agree that General Weiss is pretty much essential.

The royal guard champion turns up a few times. As does Han Solo. As the imperial player, I really like the royal guard champions campaign cards.

The saboteurs are essential for the skirmish game but arent really needed for the campaign. Rebel troopers are worth having in the campaign though.

The twin shadows campaign looks great for adding variation. - 2 new heroes for the rebels plus heavy stormtroopers.
