All I can say is thank god FW are making a Tau superheavy TANK in the near future so I can bring a LoW without having to acknowledge the existence of the awful giant anime robots.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Forge World isent making a super heavy Tau Tank. They said they where making a super heavy Tau Ground unit, And thats what they made, The Ta'unar. Never once did they specify that it would be a tank.

They did mention a tank, and specifically called it a tank. It was discussed after the giant battlesuit was on display, as part of an upcoming Tau IA book. There's also some speculation about a smaller vehicle (IIRC some kind of transport). Now, it's certainly possible that they abandon those plans just like they've abandoned other projects in the past and we never actually see the tank, but as of a while ago those plans exist.

I can confirm in so much as I was there when this rumor was first brought to light. It's nothing definitive but they were considering it and a few other things.

They said maybe. Don't take it as gospel and get disappointed now.

There was actually a superheavy 'tank' in the Tau Epic:Armageddon list.

Essentially it was an Orca dropship with improved armour (turning it from a flyer to a skimmer) and the troop bay replaced with what we shall refer to as "all the missiles ever".

It was called the Scorpionfish, as I recall.

EDIT

Ah, here we go:

The Scorpionfish super-heavy missile gunship is a Tau super-heavy skimmer first deployed in the wake of the Damocles Gulf Crusade. The Scorpionfish was developed as a response to the surprise of Imperial super-heavy tanks faced during that conflict and later engagements, and considerable effort was expended by the Earth Caste to develop a counter in the form of the Tau’s own super-heavy gunship. Lacking any other large vehicle as a basis, the Orca dropship design was modified with additional heavily armaments and armour, effectively reducing its mobility to that of a surface-bound skimmer. This variant was to become the Scorpionfish missile gunship and it carries no less than a full complement of Submunition, Seeker, Tracer and Smart Missiles, as well as direct-firing Missile Pods. It has no single main weapon, but rather acts as a platform for a number of smaller systems, enabling it to engage any type of threat it encounters. This flexibility has proven to be a major asset in recent Tau campaigns. Whilst the Scorpionfish may be slower than the majority of Tau units, its skimmer capabilities mean that negotiating difficult terrain normally is not an issue. In battle, Scorpionfish normally form part of a stout firing line at the back of a Tau force, anchoring its defences.

Think an orca with the missile turret of a skyray fitted on top (but with a choice of ammo types and the ability to reload, so you're capped at six launches per turn, not per battle) and a pair of big-ass missile pods for self-defence.

How do those missile pods deploy? they'd foul the rear engines.

Not if the engines were rotated down in hover mode... has to briefly hover to shoot (or at least deploy) rear missiles, but could fire forward pods on the move

I wish they had given us this (or something like it) instead.
