Would pirecing from a unit (specifically and assassin) confer to a breath attack granted by one of the special items?
I looked at the special rules and piercing isn't restricted to "regular" ranged attacks but I just would like to double check in case I'm totally missing something.

I personally would say it does not effect the breath attack. My thinking is the thought behind giving him piercing is the years of training with throwing weapons hitting vital areas etc, not the weapon (breath attack in this case) itself....but that's just my opinion (and therefore is probably wrong).
No - it's not clear and we'd have liked to have had time to present the special rules differently (made it clearer when it was a weapon granting the Piercing for example). The assassin has P(1) from their throwing weapons. They wouldn't transfer that to an artefact for example (e.g. taking the diadem of dragon kind).
Abilities like Elite and Vicious do apply though on any and all attacks.
Thank you much on the clarification! Yes, it seemed strange. Reading the beta lists for the new factions I saw a unit entry that pointed to it being no ( the vanangur horsemen replacing thrown weapons for bows but losing their piercing). So it made sense that the actual weapon they were using granted the piercing.

Will the FAQ/Errata perhaps be published? The last few pages of Not-Ravening Hordes might be a good place for it.

No, because we intend to keep the FAQ updated regularly.
