Hi, got a airbrush, been in the drawer(you know that drawer) never used it, bought it from a dude years ago (he needed money) paid R50 for it. Can you guys tell me if it is something to spend money on to get going or is it a crap gun, all airbrushers unite.

What is the issue you're having with it?

Or do you mean, is this worth buying the whole compressor kit for?

I have no idea if it's a good airbrush or not either because I have no idea what it is

It might be a Badger model 150 perhaps?

If those are all the parts you have, it appears that it's missing the nozzle for the needle and the cap that covers over it and carries air to the needle.

For miniatures, you are better off getting an off brand gravity feed airbrush of Amazon or Ebay.

This one would make a great starter brush, and is at an insanely great price point for beginners. http://www.amazon.com/Master-Multi-Purpose-Dual-Action-Airbrush-Professional/dp/B002KJDXHQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1444637999&sr=8-1&keywords=gravity+feed+airbrush

If you want to move straight into a high end brush, I use this one religiously. http://www.amazon.com/Paasche-TG-3F-Double-Gravity-Airbrush/dp/B002N0QA9A/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1444637999&sr=8-7&keywords=gravity+feed+airbrush
The rubber seals need to be replaced every few years as alcohol or solvents used in basic cleaning will dry them out and they will crack.

Actually, if (and only if) I'm correct and that's a Badger 150, the thing on the far right of the first picture is the protective cap and the nozzle/needle cap is hidden inside it.

At any rate, any airbrush will not work without the nozzle the needle fits into and the nozzle that covers that to bring air to the tip.

Yeah, but from the look of it those parts are present. I don't own a badger 150, but my guess is that they are just jammed in to the protector so that when the protector was unscrewed, the nozzle and air cap came off with them.

The protector looks like it *MIGHT* be a press fit over the air cap, so *MAYBE* screw the assembly on to the airbrush then *CAREFULLY* try and pull the protector off. I'm making a lot of emphasis because as I don't own the airbrush I don't know for sure, that's just my guess!

On the minus side, this is a siphon model (instead of gravity cup), but without the siphon jar.

The advantage of a gravity fed airbrush is that you can use very little paint (a couple of drops will do the job). The disadvantage, sometimes, is that the cup can only be so big or it gets in the way.

The advantage of a siphon fed airbrush is that you can have a big jar with tons of paint in it, way more than a gravity cup, and it won't dry up (at least not in the jar). The disadvantage is because there's a siphon tube, you must have "quite a bit" of paint loaded up.

The side cup is an alternate attachment for the siphon models that allows you to put some other color (or cleaner) through the siphon fed airbrush without needing a clean jar. It's a useful tool, but you really want the siphon jars if you're going to be using a siphon-fed airbrush, especially for things like basecoat and priming.
