Not sure if this is the right forum and if it's not feel free to move it...but I've seen some pics of a whole Legion of the Damned army and I just have to ask...would something like that being legal to field and play? Or is it just a modelling endeavor?

You can use the rules for the Fire Hawks chapter (downloadable for free on Forge World's website) for hqs and troops as well as actual Legion of the damned units out of codex SM as your elite choices

Special rules give + 1 strength to all flame type weapons the turn the unit deepstrikes, access to hand flamers on sgts, and +1s to hammer of wrath attacks.

It has 7 HQs, 2 Troop types with Dedicated Transports, 5 Elite units, 5 Fast Attack units, 6 Heavy Support units, 2 Formations with unique units not in the rest of the codex, and 2 LOW choices.

An actual LotD army fails on the battlefield without allies since all LotD units have to DS...so a pure army would have nothing on the board Turn 1.

Fire Hawks would be a good ally for them.

Or Salamanders if you pack them with Melta (and take Vulkan).

Just get whatever Marines you want them to support, and grab yourself 4 squads. I mean, their Warlord Traits aren't actually that bad as a whole, and they have some decent tools to use (more accurate Deep Strike, ignoring cover).

I advise HIGHLY against that Command Squad loadout for a multitude of reasons.

Its fluffy fun, and the captain and them get a free S5 Large blast turn 1 against any unit of their choice and deepstrike without scatter within 6" of it...which is the perfect range to unload 8 S5 flamers.

I know it is a lot less fluffy, but wouldn't you figure Melta Guns to be handier? Look at how much Flamers you have in the first place.
