Not that I plan to, but Is it possible to be too fortified?

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!

Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.

You can have 1 for every fortification slot in your detachments. So you could take loads if you just kept taking CADs with 2 troops and a HQ with a fortification.

Don't most events limit this to one?

I am aware, but there is a fortification "bundle" in the stronghold assault book which lets you do stuff like 0-5 bastions

In a game about holding objectives, fortifications don’t help with that aspect. They can shore up a firebase/gunline, add invulns to glass hammers, and pull some nice tricks. But at the end of the day, they need units to support and give those benefits to.

Finding that balance depends a lot on your army and build. But I can’t see taking more then 2-3 tops for any reasonable point level. I rarely even take out my ADL these days.

Depends entirely on the fortification.

ADL = Immune to damage, grants cover save to units behind it. You take as many as you need to and treat it like Level 3 Shrouded.

Bastion = Worth taking several of if you have multiple squads that can benefit from it. Not only does it some decent weapons on it, but it also has a trapdoor that can propel your units onto nearby objectives when you need them or assault enemies attempting to get Linebreaker, all while being a safe place to fire your lascannons from.

Macro Cannon Strongpoint = The D cannon every army can use, and some armies desperately need. Complaining about Lords of War? Take one of these, but multiple would be overkill. This is the type of Fortification you would only bring one of if you lack any other source of D. Or heck, just for Apocalyptic Blasts to handle zergs.

Plasma Obliterator = This beauty is worth taking tons of, especially since it counts as a Heavy Support choice instead of a Fortification. It fires a 7" Massive Blast of S7 AP2 plasma goodness up to 72" away. That might seem pricey but remember it's like four times the area coverage of a normal plasma cannon shot from ANYWHERE on the map and isn't so easily destroyed. It has a problem dealing with vehicles or flyers and still Gets Hot on a 1, but it will melt every other unit on the field.

Some fortifications are clearly better than others.

It's called a thick skin. The Jersey born have it innately.

Vanished Completely

I made a hypothetical list when 7th first hit called 'Old Man One-eye,' never got around to getting the models for it though.

The concept is simple, select a single Model to ensure the 'auto-lose' conditions are not met during Turn 1 and then fill the rest of the list with Fortifications. To give the list that interesting appearance the Fortifications should be styled to look like hill-billy shacks. The Model, which Dakkadakka recommended One-eye for me, is then positioned to look as if they are sitting on a rocking chair and drinking a massive bottle of moon shine. This Model does nothing the entire game but sit there, leaving it up to the automatic systems to try and deal with the threat.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

I love this idea. Throw in Spore Mines and static defence Sporocysts to fart out more spore mines.
