Here's a varied list pulling together some new units of mine I want to run together. I'm just curious what people think are the strengths and weaknesses here, and what you would change.

Combined Arms Detachment
120 Autarch Skyrunner w/ Laser Lance, Reaper Launcher w/Star-swarm Missiles

160 5 Windriders, x2 Shuriken Cannons, Warlock Skyrunner w/Singing Spear
190 5 Windriders, x5 Scatter Lasers, Warlock Skyrunner w/Singing Spear
65 5 Dire Avengers
65 5 Dire Avengers

150 3 Vipers w/2 Shuriken Cannons each

125 5 Striking Scorpions, Exarch w/Scorpion's Claw
120 5 Fire Dragons, Exarch

165 Wraithlord w/Ghostglaive, 2 Bright Lances
390 3 Falcons w/Starcannons

Seer Council
125 Farseer Skyrunner, Singing Spear
125 Farseer Skyrunner, Singing Spear
200 Warlock Conclave – 4 Warlock Skyrunners

The small units will ride in the Falcons, if necessary.

As someone that runs the seer council often.

4 members will not do much for you. That is one roll on the chart. I personally go with 7 always. Also, with 4 members under certain rulesets (ITC) you can only cast 1 power with them.

Aftermath can be calculated.

Well, by the current codex rules for the Warlock Conclave, they are Mastery level 2 for 4-6 Warlocks, so I don't understand why you would say they only get one roll on the chart, they should have 2. I could shift my other 2 warlocks into the squad, but that would only be 6 and wouldn't effect their mastery level (I'm not dropping more money on models at this point). I figured I'd rather have the additional powers from shifting 2 Warlocks each of my Windrider Squadrons, as well as the Conceal buffs for those squads + something else potentially useful.

If I ever decide to go all the way, I may try a 7-10 man unit, but it just seems like too many points when I only gain extra Warp Charges, not powers, at 50 pts a model.

Do you own Swooping Hawks? I am skeptical you have enough to stop an IK reliably. It seems to be lacking bodies as well as punch.

You have one squad of Fire Dragons, which will be inside of a Falcon. Opponents with expensive IK or Superheavies will simply target the Falcon and small arms fire the FD off the table.

The Seer Council really does not offer enough offensive output for the points being spent on it. The Autarch seems a bit out of place in this army. Can you elaborate what you intend for him?

Overall, the list appears to lack synergy, resiliency and offensive output, but my opinion is purely based upon what I would typically face off against. YMMV. Good luck.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Hmm, good input there, I didn't think about IK as I don't usually face off against them. Unfortunately no, I don't have any Swooping Hawks anymore, although I wouldn't be against getting some in the future, it looks like they can bring a variety of useful fill ins for an army.

The Autarch gives the Seer Council some small cc insurance in case someone charges them, and also helps me control a little more when the Falcons arrive from reserve. Since there are 3 Falcons in the squad, they can deepstrike and arrive without scattering, so that precision strike is aided somewhat by the Autarch.

The nice thing there is the opponent won't have an opportunity aside from an interceptor gun emplacement to shoot my deepstriking Falcon that can bring some targeted Fire Dragons to the fray. I dropped the points I would need to take the Aspect Warriors as an Aspect Host as I didn't have the points for the last Exarch upgrade to get to BS 5, so they aren't the most accurate Fire Dragon squad, but still helpful. I guess I could drop one unit of Dire Avengers, but then one Falcon would be empty (as the Striking Scorpions are not embarking, they will be infiltrating), but that isn't so bad.

My Falcons are my "I hate power armor" unit that can throw out 12 s6-8 ap2 shots at a unit. Ideally they'd be guided by the Farseer.

Alternatively I could drop the Seer Council formation and take one of the Farseers from that into my CAD, and use the extra points to take a Waveserpent carting around some Wraithguard with Wraithcannons that I have.

Edited: fixed an error about my exarchs.

A seer council MUST include at least 5 warlocks in the conclave when using the formation.

Aha, you're right! Somehow I missed that or thought of it as 5 models minimum for the formation. Well, I guess I have to move one more Warlock in to the unit, then.

Well, here's a new, revised list:

Combined Arms Detachment
120 Autarch Skyrunner w/ Laser Lance, Reaper Launcher w/Star-swarm Missiles

105 5 Windriders, x2 Shuriken Cannons
190 5 Windriders, x5 Scatter Lasers, Warlock Skyrunner w/Singing Spear

100 2 Vipers w/2 Shuriken Cannons each

125 5 Striking Scorpions, Exarch w/Scorpion's Claw
165 Wraithlord w/Ghostglaive, 2 Bright Lances
390 3 Falcons w/Starcannons

Aspect Host
142 6 Fire Dragons, Exarch
80 5 Dire Avengers, Exarch w/TL Catapult
80 5 Dire Avengers, Exarch w/TL Catapult

Seer Council
125 Farseer Skyrunner, Singing Spear
120 Farseer Skyrunner
250 Warlock Conclave – 5 Warlock Skyrunners, 1 has a Singing Spear

Alternatively, I could move one Farseer into the CAD, drop the Seer Council and bring:

160 5 Wraithguard
125 Wave Serpent with TL Bright Lance, Shuriken Cannon
1 more Dire Avenger in each squad
1 more Viper
